The issue with the health care debate is that neither side wants to listen to the other. Those who support this reform have listened to the half truths, propaganda and embelishments of President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and others. Those who oppose are not much better, getting much of their information from Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others. Few look at it with the eyes of someone who knows both sides of the story. The first things that should be looked at is what is wrong with the currant system.

A lot of people have complained that the insurance companies are the real issue, and they have been the ones who have come under the greatest attack from the government. But replacing the buearicracy of the insurance company with the largest beaurocracy in the country is no better than what we have. It can take up to 5 years for a disabled person to get disability benefits!!! Now that is justice there. Thank you U.S. government.

Supporters say that a public option will not be the entire take-over of the system, unfortunately, several states have tried similar reforms and have found that it did not fix the issue of not having healthcare. In fact it created even more issues than it solved, and the states could not pay for it (look at Tennessee).

Opponents are really upset that there is no tort reform in the currant bill. Who knows what the premiums would be if doctors did not have to charge so much to cover costs of an out of control tort system that costs billions every year on frivilious malpractice suits. The need to curb suits to issues of true malpractice will save billions for health care providers and in turn procedures would not cost as much.

The last issue is how to pay for it. Estimations have been anywhere from $800,000,000,000 to $1,400,000,000,000. When we are in a recession (and the jobless recovery announced by the government has not shown on anyone except our big businesses who used our tax money to recoup losses and then fired employees to report a profit) there just does not seem to be any money left over for anything new, so how are we going to pay for this whole thing? Never mind that soon the interest on the national debt will be greater than the entire intake of federal income taxes. Also, when was the last time anything costed what the government said it would!  The president, Congress and the Senate have all seemed to have forgotten one of the first things parents teach their children about budgets, money does not grow on trees.

Is there a need for reform? Yes. What is the best way to do it? I am not sure. But I also don't think that this is the best way and it feels that it is being rushed. Take your time with this, don't sell my children's future for your own self-gratification today.
