Who was Sri Chinmoy

GHOSE Chinmoy Kumar was born in the small village of Shakpura in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) in the year of 1931. Sri Chinmoy was the youngest of seven brothers. In 1944, after the death of their parents, the 12 year old boy came to the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo, a spiritual community near Pondicherry in Southern India. There he spent the following 20 years in spiritual practice, which included long hours of meditation, practice of athletic exercises, poem and songs composition as well as spiritual writing test.

In his early adolescence, Sri Chinmoy had many profound inner experiences and in the subsequent years he achieved high states of meditation. In 1964 he moved to New York to share his inner wealth with sincere seekers in the West.

Sri Chinmoy sees the fullfilment - the incessant cry of the heart for situations where the reality is higher and deeper - as the spiritual force that is behind all great advances of religion, culture, sports and science. Living in trough the heart with continuous search for fullfilment, Men and Women can bring out to the light the best that each one of us have, on the path of the true satisfaction.

Sri Chinmoy was a spiritual guide to students in more than 60 countries around the world. He encouraged those to follow a balanced lifestyle, which incorporates the inner disciplines of praying and meditation to the dynamism of contemporary life. The life of Sri Chinmoy was an expression of creativity without boundaries. His extensive production includes music, poetry, painting, literature and sports. His contribution in each one of these subjects has been remarkable and comprehensive.

He regularly traveled arround the world to offer free concerts, lectures and public meditations, meetings with their students to discuss spirituality in the world as well has he had several meetings with community leaders. Sri Chinmoy did not charge anything for their spiritual guidance or for his concerts, lectures and public meditations.

Sri Chinmoy dedicated his life to inspire humanity to achieve higher levels. A spiritual guide to approximately 6,000 students, Sri Chinmoy passed away on October 11, 2007.
