Ask Susan Peters - Are WholeMeals Healthy Dog Foods?

We start with chicken by-product meal as the second ingredient. By-products are floor sweepings collected from a rendering plant. Anything that hits the floor and is not fit for human consumption is by-product. By-products can't have "added" feathers but the ones included in the mess are just fine. Meal means the floor sweepings have had the water removed and the feathers, poultry poo, whatever has hit the floor is now concentrated.

Meat Broth. "Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. If the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat".

Corn flour and corn gluten meal are cheap fillers used by pet food companies to reduce production costs. Gluten is a super concentrated mix as is meal. So the corn is this batch is actually at least 5 times the amount listed.

We should probably take time out from this review to remind ourselves of the good and bad effects of corn, wheat, and soy in a cat or dog's diet. *Corn, wheat and soy are responsible for fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, seizures, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and death. Oh yeah, for the good effects of these three grains - reduces the cost of pet food production.

Brewer's rice, brewer's dried yeast, and malted barley are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.

Cellulose Powder - Recycled newspaper used for making insulation.

Propylene glycol are clear liquids used in antifreeze and deicing solutions.

Anytime I see a Class Action filed against a company and the products the company produces I would not advise feeding their products to your pets. The pet owners have filed a Class Action against the company for killing their pets.

This is not a healthy dog food. - Susan Peters

10 minutes of reading the internet and now I'm not sure if anybody is making a pet food that is safe and healthy for my 5 dogs and 4 cats. My local Pet store has over 50 types of pet food(dry and canned), yet on the web I can find only a few rated "Safe" enough to use. Something "stinks" here(no pun intended). I'm having a lot of trouble determining who is telling the scientific truth and who is being paid to slander the competition. On the WWWeb, it's just so very easy to be "wrong" with your "facts". In the end, it'll be my pets that get hurt and not the real criminals. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks, randy mize
