Fake It Until You Make It

There are complaint and suggestion boxes to voice disagreements with how a sale is being transacted. It is your privilege as an employee of a company to use those channels to let management know how your feel about a job and what can be done to make it better. It is a known fact that the purpose of the job interview is to "sell yourself." The job interview is the place to present your best qualifications to prove that you are the best fit for the job. I do not think that you are faking it if you are not winning the interview.  Jobs are available in America.  The job may not be the job of your dreams but jobs are available. You are being paid a day's pay for a day's work if you secure one of these jobs that may be out of your league. You may think that way if you are only putting up with the job for the money but that is how the bills get paid. Once you lost a job you must look for a job replacement as soon as possible to keep your family budget balanced.

I wonder if American's circumstances were different, would they have a different attitude about their jobs being real or "unreal." People who were once on two incomes are now a one income family because of the economy. But what happens when the one income leaves and two people are out of a job. The scenario calls for putting aside the special privileges of choosing the job that is comparable to the number of degrees that you have. The scenario calls for getting a job, any decent job that qualifies you to earn pay to make a living.

I am not suggesting that you sell yourself short and demoralize yourself for the sake of a job. I am saying that you should accept a reputable job that fits your qualifications. Doing a job the best you can is not selling yourself. Every job seeking employee sells themselves at the interview process, including the president during the debates.

There are jobs in America, just not the job that may be comparable to your number of degrees or your area of academic discipline. Like Ronald Reagan said years ago that some people found a bit shallow but true: As long as there are jobs in the classified ads, a company is hiring and there are jobs available. Now because of the internet, perspective employees can check online on Criagslist for employment.

The unemployment rate is 9.4 percent because of the number of people being laid off because of large number of companies going out of business. The 9.4 percent unemployment rate does not show the number of people online everyday on job boards looking for work or pounding the pavement offline.

Americans just have to get off of their disappointment of not starting at the top of a company after graduation from college or working out of their area of interest. Many college graduates expect to start at the top, a recent report showed. When we lament about the "emptiness" of a job, we are not presenting the best attitude to move forward. An attitude of moving forward is to do the best job possible so that when and if a job becomes available of trained interest, you would be the first pick.

Do the best you can at the job that you "won" at the interview and keep hope alive for the job of your dreams as most Americans. The way you feel about your job whatever it may be reflects on your job performance. Just like rushing to write a thesis, the instructor can tell if you put your best efforts into doing your best. You are not your best critic and employers reviewing your work can tell how you feel about the job. Eventually, either your performance waivers from satisfactory or your attitude of feeling that the job is not "real work" leads you away.

The attitude or thinking that the job was not real eventually shows and you find yourself without work. This is one part of the article that I am going to compare with faking it until you make it. Fake it until you make it if you do not like your job and you think it may be difficult to get another one because of the economy.

Put your best acting performance to the test. Act as though you like your job especially if you have mouths to feed. Kids do not know if you think your job is real or not, they just know that you get up every morning and go to work. Kids do know that you are responsible for feeding them with your work. Fake it til you make it on legitimate jobs with a reputable company that pays you for an honest days work. Fake it until you make it like a job you are proud of going to every morning. When you do the best job you can, you keep the company sustainable in sales or as a janitor and your family fed. What can be more important than that?

BundleBoy, thank you for your comment.

I agree with your comment and only the strongest survive when it comes to the economic downturn. Happiness and contentment is difficult to contain but I think those two sentiments are best. If you are discontent and unhappy, you won't be hurting anyone but yourself. Surely, the economy will not turn around because of how you feel about the job situation. Yes, happiness and contentment with the job situation is the better choice.
