Zune

Branded a Thief

If you walk into a store pick up a tooth brush and go to pay for it just to be told at the cash desk that there is a $1.00 surcharge because more tooth brushes are stolen from that store than any other item in the store you wouldn't buy the toothbrush would you?

I wouldn't because it would be like being branded as a thief, because more tooth brushes are stolen all shoppers are thieves so we pay an extra dollar to make up for the stolen ones.

Did you know that for every Microsoft Zune sold, Microsoft will pay $1.00 to Universal Music Group (UMG) as recompense for the music they believe that Zune users will steal,50% of which is supposed to go to UMG artists.

So if you buy a Zune you are automaticaly branded a thief, therefore if you buy a Zune you are paying an extra dollar for music which you haven't even downloaded yet.

What if all the other big labels and independant labels decide to do the same thing could we all be paying over $1000 over the cost of the machine for illegal music because of all the $1.00 payouts Microsoft have to make.

Who's the real thief now?

well, in business they have to make up the costs. it's unfair but it's the way it is. supermarkets in poor neighborhoods charge the poor more for the same exact good as their sister supermarkets in nicer neighborhoods, but they do so because shoplifting costs increase in poorer neighborhoods. seems like to be fairer they could raise prices uniformly (and less) across the board, but they don't. ah well, the poor have no political power, so they make a pretty good group to target.
