Why Are You Here? What’s Your Purpose? Part 2

In my last hub I promised some tips to help you find your purpose. Going by the comments my article received not everyone believes in a purpose, and some believe in a purpose but not in such as to make any difference in our lives. Anyway, I believe we are here for a predetermined purpose and part of that is to discover what it is and then to live accordingly. So here is what helped me discover why I am here.

Bob Proctor, one of The Secret teachers and my mentor, in his article "Purpose, Vision and Goals" (I'll send it to anyone who asks) speaks about us having specific talents and gifts that are coded into our DNA. He says, "You just don't pick up things you like doing by chance." And because it is coded into our very being we automatically are drawn to those things which are in accordance with that purpose. The things you like to do are most likely an indication of why you are here.

So the first thing to do is to take inventory of the things you like doing. Make a list of your hobbies and favorite pastimes and anything else you enjoy doing. Maybe you are already working at a job you really enjoy. You feel fulfilled and needed. This is important. If you don't have this feeling in what you are doing then taking a good look at why you are doing it may be a good idea.

Next, take your list and prioritize it, putting the things you enjoy most at the top. Take the top two or three items and think of ways you can make money with them. Why make money? Well if you can pay your bills and your rent or mortgage doing the thing you enjoy doing, wouldn't that be a big booster in your life? Make another list and for each of your top items write down, as fast as you can without thinking too long, any ideas that come to mind how you can do that thing, use it to help others, the opportunities to do it, the opportunities it will bring to you.

Now you can prioritize those lists putting to the top those ideas which you can start working on now. Beside those ideas write down how you can get started today. Note the names of any people you could meet to talk with about these ideas.

What you will have in your hands when you complete this exercise is a purpose orientated power list of ideas and people. All you have to do now is follow through on the action ideas you have noted down. Even if you don't believe in a purpose, this exercise will help to point you in the direction of what you could be doing and to enjoy doing it. Happy hunting!

If this exercise has helped you I would love to hear from you. Write and tell me your experiences.

jimmurdoch.

Yes, if you can make money by doing something you really enjoy -- this would be wonderful. What a great gift to have your work be something you are truly passionate about. Thank you for the inspiration, and keep writing.
