Obama Taps Gary Locke Commerce Secretary
55Mr. Gary Locke Makes the Number Four Commerce Secretary Appointment
President Barack Obama has tapped Gary Locke of Washington as his nominee for commerce secretary. Gary Locke will be the fourth appointee to Commerce Secretary of whom Nancy Killefer, Tom Daschle and Judd Gregg were all precedents.
Mr. Locke is the first Chinese American governor who is the former governor of Washington. President Barack Obama says that Gary Locke shares his vision for turning around the country that is in a recession.
Currently, Gary Locke works for a law firm in Seattle, Washington called Davis Wright Tremaine which concerns itself with issues involving China, energy and governmental relations.
Recent news report that President Barack Obama may select a Chinese American, Mr. Locke for the vacant Commerce Secretary . Further information on Mr. Locke will be provided as soon as the President Barack Obama makes the announcement.
A Congressman on NPR, the week of February 7, 2009, reported that after a few weeks in office President Obama seems to start clinching his fist at the unyielding walk across party lines that the Republicans refuse to take. This Congressman said that he walked across the aisle at a meeting in Congress and when he came back to the Republican side of the meeting room, they treated him like he had just visited the Berlin Wall. His comments were that maybe the city of Washington D.C. is just a partisan place that refuses to yield to bi-partisanship.
CNN News reports currently report that President Obama is having a difficult time wooing the Republicans to join into the spirit of change that he has so successfully embedded into his Presidential Administration. The Lilly Ledbetter bill of equal pay for equal work sailed through the house without a single republican vote. In 1993 President Clinton faced the same landslide of lack of Republican support and bills went through the House without a single Republican vote as well. President Obama's comment was pragmatically the umimportance of the Republican's vote as long at the Lilly Ledbetter and similar important bill got passed into a law.
However, PresidentBarack Obama does not seem quite satisfied with the snub of the GOP party. He has appointed a Republican of New Hampshire, Senator Gregg to become Commerce Secretary for the Obama Administration. He stepped down because he said he wanted to remain true to his principles and disagreed with the $787 billion Economic Stimulus Plan. However, political critiques are saying that he may just want to be known as an Obama insider who reflected back to the Republicans. So the plan of reaching across Democratic and Republican lines did not work in the Commerce Secretary department. President Barack Obama only wants what is good for the country and bi-partisan is not going to work if all ideas, Democatic and Republicans are not met on the center of the table for scrutiny. The Republicans must realize that it is a loser's game if they welcome President Barack Obama into the white house with a Senator John McCain pout and disdain of his popular win with the voters. The Republicans has got to realize that President Barack Obama represents the American people and they are Americans too. If these important bills continue to pass into laws wth substantial Republican support, eventually, the American people are going to start looking at the Republican's agenda. Americans will surmise what the Republicans are about if they are not voting in favor of bills that benefit the American people. Each Republican represents a state in the United States and was voted to represent their state's interest in regards to legislature. There is a picture of individual disdain or an hostile work environment if the Republicans are not voting in the interest of the people of their state. Like the recent departure of Senator Judd Gregg from the Obama Administration for what is deemed purely personal reasons can not truly be representative of the people who voted him in as Senator of New Hampshire. The Senator was very adamant on the floor accessing the economic condition of the country and that is why his appointment was an easy thing for President Barack Obama to do. Now President Barack Obama will have to select another qualified candidate and hope that whoever he chooses, a Democratic or a Republican will have the political toughness to stay with his political convictions irregardless of party ties or identity crisis.
Because of their disdain maybe of a Presidential candidate who was elected with more than 51% of the popular vote with less experience but a penchant and love for America that superseded losing and made up with the willing to learn and to serve, brings a taste of mutiny to the Republicans.
Why aren't Republicans backing President Barack Obama? The people of the states in which Republicans represent should begin to look with transparency and begin checking their voting records. President Barack Obama has called for Americans to "remake America." Maybe the first step is to remake the Republican party to what it was in its original state: the Party of Abraham Lincoln and not a party of group hostility. Independent attitutes of the Republicans will not help the dire need of cohesiveness of agendas and doctrines to get America up out of the dust to start moving again. Republican doctrines seem to be mostly for the rich and powerful. Small business owners after small business owners appealed to Americans to select John McCain to sustain their businesses wearing rich looking suits and cowboy hats while people in the mountains are feeding their babies soda from a milk bottle for lack of money to buy what is needed to sustain a child's life.
President Bush admitted that he was impressed that President Barack Obama ability to raise over $150 million in a month's time during his presidential campaign. Former President Bush must realize that the American people raised the campaign funds to get the President of choice into the White House. Now if only the American People can get him to work for them instead getting a breather from the Republicans by campaigning around the country for an Economic Stimulus Package that is sure to pass. Although only three Republicans got the ball rolling for the recovery package, their help is much appreciated and it is clear that they are representing the consensus of their home states.
The American people voted President Barack Obama as the best person for the Presidency of the United States of America and the Republicans should respect that fact. So Senator, Warner from Virginia, it is hoped that during the next news conference with President Barack Obama as the one answering the press, that a little less grimacing would be appreciated. Remember both the Demoratic and Republican parties are political parties of the American People and not a channel to show partisan disdain or a place "to find yourself" in front of an accomplished politician seated in the oval office. The office of the President of the United States should be respected regardless of the occupant and the American people should make certain that their state representatives or service people as President Barack Obama would rather call them , be the highest proponent of political representation for Main Street, America.
