I Am A 28 Year Veteran Teacher - I Hope You Will Become One Too

My name is Bruce Bussell.  I have been a teacher for 28 years.  I feel like one of the lucky ones too.  You see, I have been fortunate enough to have taught in an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school during my time as a teacher.  I have also taught both regular education and special education.

As I look back on my career, the thing that really jumps out to me is the effect the students had on me.  I really believe that my students taught me as much as I taught them.  My life is so much more full as a result of being a teacher.

I retired from my Carlsbad, New Mexico school system at the end of 2006.  We can retire with full benefits after 25 years of service in New Mexico.  Can you imagine that?  I was not even 50 years old yet and I  retired.  Not many professions offer that.  I moved to Lubbock, Texas and continued teaching. I now earn a paycheck, receive a pension and I am creating a new pension over here.  If you hadn't thought of that aspect of being a teacher you might want to.

Oh yeah, one other important thing I want you to know about being a teacher. If you have children at home, you get the same holidays they do.  What a great perk!

Well, there you have it.  Just a quick note to tell you to get on the ball and get your degree. Become a teacher! These kids need you.
