Why Buying the Best Christmas Toys and Gifts is Difficult for Grandma?
61Christmas shopping is difficult for almost everyone. When you set out to please the loved ones and friends on your list by selecting the best Christmas toys and gifts for them, it becomes quite a task trying to decide what to buy. For hints to make your holiday shopping easier, please visit Best Christmas Toys and Gifts. It would be great if you read and enjoy the humor in the following anecdotes.
Have you ever eavesdropped on a conversation that left you laughing hysterically but yet got you thinking? I was at church last Sunday when I heard a group of elderly ladies talking. Because they were deep in conversation they did not notice me standing there listening to them. This well dressed group of fashionably dressed women who were between the ages of 50 to 75 were describing the burden of trying to please everyone in their families who looked to them to fulfill their greatest wish of receiving the best christmas toy or gift from them. This doesn't include the smallest children of course because they know that Santa will take care of them.
One of the ladies brought up the fact that she had trouble knowing what to get because she is so out of touch with what toys are popular and being requested by her grandchildren. Because she does not live with the children and does not see them every day, she simply does not know what are the hottest toys. Occasionally she will turn on the television to the kids' shows so that she can see what is being advertised. Do they really want a sponge with square pants?
Another nicely groomed lady complained that she had grandchildren in many different age groups. One of them mentioned that a "kiss of death" would be to give a "too young" present to your teenage grandson. Wasn't that the grandchild who just turned 5 on his birthday who thought the giggling Elmo was so funny and now he is talking about some "Rockband Halo X360 Ipod MP3? As if she was not confused enough, she said her daughter tells her that she wants we to get fit to do yoga in her living room. How is that a gift?
Another one said that entering the electronics store was like being mobbed at a car dealership. After she walked into the store, persistent young commissioned sales people surrounded her offering their assistance and she felt attacked. She did not know what to tell them she wanted and it was overwhelming. Everything looked foreign to her and she did not even know what did many of the devices do. What is the difference between DVR, VCR, MP3, PS3, etc.? They all assured her that these were the latest and the greatest and that everyone had to have one. What is an IPOD? On some items, the prices were similar to the cost of a nice Cadillac in the sixties. And yet, there she was with the list that her daughter-in-law had given her of suggestions of what presents the children would like.
The trips to the mall were killing another one of the ladies. Because her arthritis prevented her from carrying large packages or a lot of weight, she could only buy a few presents at a time----and they had to be small and lightweight. She had gone so many times that she said she should have a parking space with her name on it.
One of the funniest stories I heard was from one of the grandmothers who was talking about how she went to buy one of life size animatronic ponies for her granddaughter. Once she had located the toy department in the store where she went to shop and found the pony she wanted to buy, she became frustrated at the size of the box that she would have to manage. First, she tried to find someone to help her take it down off the shelf and put it into the cart. Then once she got it in the cart, how was she going to make it fit into the car to take it home?. When she arrived at home, how would she take it into the house? Didn't her refrigerator come in a box that size and wasn't there a delivery service?
It really made me happy that I was born in the computer age. I knew the secret of the internet. No going to the mall for me. No lugging heavy boxes. No feeling lost at the electronics store. You will find me shopping on the computer, doing my selections, ordering, and then waiting for the best Christmas toys and gifts to show up at my door.
