Why Cats Are Better Pets Than Dogs: A Cat's Perspective
83
Are cats better pets than dogs? Some people would say yes. Others would say no. Basically, it depends on your lifestyle and needs. Personally, I like both. However, my cats would strongly disagree. For them, whether cats are better pets than dogs is not even a question. This is their story.
Get Out! I'm Trying to Sleep!
One night, Callie and Blackie were peacefully slumbering amidst a tangled wad of blankets. Suddenly out of nowhere, Katie Joy, a Golden Retriever, exuberantly bounded into the bedroom followed by her cohort, Nickie, a German Shepherd - Rotweiller mix. Prancing and dancing with her tail wagging in a frenzy, Katie excitedly put her front paws on the bed. Callie hissed and yowled. "Get out! Get out! Can't you see we're sleeping?" Angrily, she thought to herself, the only good dog is a dog that doesn't live here. Why can't people understand cats are better than dogs? Dogs are nothing but a bunch of trouble!
Ha Ha! I Got the Bed Now!
Scampering down the hall to the living room with one quick leap they both land on the back of the sofa. Callie, a pleasantly plump Calico cat was miffed. Looking over at her brother, in an exasperated tone she said, "I hate that Golden Retriever!"
Without acknowledging her, in his normal aloof manner, he continued licking his midnight black and winter white coat as if he didn't hear her. Even more irritated if that were possible, once more Callie said, "I hate Katie! I hate Golden Retrievers! Are you listening to me, Blackie?"
Pausing, he finally looked at her and said, "I know Callie, but what do you want me to do about it? After all, Nickie isn't any better. Don't you remember what she used to be like when she was a puppy? I haven't forgotten. Can you imagine being sprayed by a skunk not once, but twice, and she still has not learned her lesson? And just yesterday, I saw her barking at another one. When Mom let her in, you could smell the slight scent of a skunk. She was just lucky she wasn't close enough to be hammered again. And remember when she went swimming in the swamp and came back covered in black slime? I don‘t know what she got into, but it sure did stink! If that's not bad enough, look at the big fuss she made when Mom gave her a bath. Fighting with mom. Trying to jump out of the tub. Splashing water everywhere. Mom got more of a bath than Nickie. What the heck did she expect? Did she honestly think Mom was going to let her in the house smelling that way? It's bad enough living with a dog, but I'm not going to put up with them stinking too!"
No Dog Kisses for Me!
Wrinkling her nose, Callie said, "Yes, I remember. She is a dumb dog. Do you remember when she used to stick her head in the litter box? It certainly wasn't Tootsie Rolls she was eating. Afterwards, she tries to lick and kiss everyone. How gross! How many times do you think Mom yelled at her for that? I thought she was never going to learn. And now, Katie is doing the same thing. Dogs. What disgusting creatures!"
Nodding his head in agreement, Blackie said, "Remember how she used to chew on everything? She chewed on the leg of the recliner. She chewed Mom's leather boot. She tore up our toy mouse and pulled all the stuffing out. She even made a hole in the bathroom wall. And to think, we get in trouble for scratching the furniture. You tell me what's worse."
Nothing Better than a Good Stick!
- Are Cats Better Pets than Dogs: Part 2
Now that we know what's going on, we are going write our own hub about whether cats are better pets than dogs. We can't believe all the cruel things Blackie and Callie said about us. Therefore, as Paul...
Preoccupied, Callie was only half-way listening. "I know, but Katie isn't any better. Look at all those sticks she drags into the yard. I've seen her drag a limb in twice as long as she is. She always has to have something in her mouth. Her toys are all slobbery. And what's with the socks? If she doesn't have a toy in her mouth, she carries around dirty socks and underwear. Can you imagine any cat doing that?"
Piping up, Blackie replied, "You know what I hate? I hate the way both of them are such pigs! Mom has to put our food bowl on the table so they don't eat up our food too. And, how do you like the way they beg? I can't believe Mom falls for it when they place their heads on her lap, looking up at her with those pleading, brown eyes. You would think they were literally starving. Katie digs in the trash and eats whatever she can find. And, look at the way they both scour the woods looking for any dead tidbit they can find. Ick! Why does Mom even waste her money buying them dog treats? I can think of better ways her money could be spent. For instance, I‘d like one of those combination kitty condo-pole perches."
With a dejected look, tears glistened in Callie's eyes of green. "Maybe you're right, Blackie. Nickie isn't any better than Katie is. After all, Nickie introduced Katie to deer bones. Nickie didn't get nicknamed the ‘Rotten Shepherd for nothing." It isn't because she's half Rotweiller and half Shepherd like Mom tells everyone. She actually is rotten! I don't understand it. Weren't we enough for her? Remember when it used to be just you and me here?
Seeing his sister cry tugged at Blackie‘s heart. Tenderly, he nuzzled his sister, trying to comfort her. "It will be okay, Callie. At least, were not the only ones who feel this way. The other day, I was sitting next to Mom while she was on the computer looking at Hub requests. Somebody requested a hub for 10 reasons why cats are better than dogs. I wish we could take matters into our own paws. If I knew how to use the computer, I'd tell the world what nasty, mangy pets dogs are before any more cat's lives are ruined. The request just asked for ten reasons, but I can think of a million reasons!"

Thank you, Misty. I am glad you found it funny and enjoyed it. I love both cats and dogs, too. However, except for dogs tying you down moreso, I think a I lean a little bit more toward dogs. I never had children so maybe it's because their more dependent upon me. My two sleep by the side of my bed on a big dog pillow. It also gives me a comforting feeling knowing their so close when I'm sleeping. By the way, I love your name --- misty horizon. How cool. It reminds me of Minnesota in a way. If the weather conditions are right, in the early morming a mist rises off the lakes and swamps. It's so beautiful and mysterious at the same time.

Hey, Callie & Blackie!
Dogs can be a pain. But they are trainable (easier than humahnz!), and make great toys. Teach 'em who's got the upper claw!
Great Hub, fellow felines. Keep on writing!
...Princess & Pirate Swift...
Thanks seamist, your name is great too for much the same reasons. When I first went on the Internet I was simply mistyhorizon, but after a time away from the net I went to register under a new email address and found the closest I could now get was mistyhorizon2003. I guess loads of other people decided they liked the name too!!!
My dogs always used to sleep on my bed, along with my cat, I was lucky there was room for me at all :)
We agree with you, Callie and Blackie! From Skylar, Rori, Tabby, Carbon, and Miss Sara Kitty. But we like d*gs too, except when they get in the way of what WE want to do! Luckily, the closest one lives in the fenced yard next door.

Are you sure their traniable? We're not convinced. When we show them who has the upper claw, for some reason, they think we're playing with them. Mark it up to stupid dogs. Regardless, we greatly appreciate your comments and input.
Blackie and Callie
(...We still got that laptop!...)
Hello, Fellow Felines!
Properly trained dogs are the very best spies, fall guys and exercise machines. Most helpful when you need a distraction, too. (But don't tell seamist ...)

To the KT pdx pride:
You're kidding? You like dogs? Cool, do we have a Christmas present for you! We're packing their toy bags as we speak.
By the way, Mom took us to your website. We're so sorry. Mom even cried when she read about Lydia's last day.
Blackie and Callie
Hey Princess and Pirate
Great to hear from you again. No, Mom doesn't know we're on the computer. We finally figured this darn thing out. Leave it to us cats, we're so smart! We don't need to take any computer classes. Maybe you have a point, but we think we have a solution. The KT pdx pride loves dogs. Can you imagine that? We're gonna give them an early Christmas present. We sure do hope they write back and send us their address. Just in case they don't, would you like them? Please don't tell Mom that we're trying to find a home for them. She would have a fit. Mom loves them so much. She's always calling them her babies. Gee, what does she think we are? We can't help it, but we want to be the only babies!
Blackie and Callie
Ack! No, that's not what we meant, Blackie and Callie!!! *all the cats hold up their paws to stop the dogs from coming* We've got a full house as it is! >^..^< We like them, but not THAT much to have them come live with us. MOL MOL MOL (meowing out loud). Besides, we think you might actually miss the slobberers after a while, strange as that may seem. Oh, and Rori even wrote an answer to the same request you did.
Also, thanks for your comment about Lydia's passing. We're still kind of in shock, here, even two weeks later. It takes a while for life to get back to "normal". Skylar's having a tough time with it, but every day gets better. She was our main snuggler and alpha kitty. Now Rori's taken over as alpha kitty, even though she's the youngest. Mommy baked the paw print that Lydia made at the vet's, and she cried the whole time she was baking it. It's going to be displayed somewhere we can't get to it, not sure where yet.
(...Q. How do you plug in a laptop without opposable thumbs? A. Ver-ry carefully...)
KT pdx Pride -- We are deeply saddened by your loss. I went through it twice in a couple of months, and after a time my humahnz brought Princess because I was so lost. We both extend a paw to you.
Blackie & Callie -- Dogs do make wonderful gifts, especially for long-distance giving. How thoughtful of you! But the pride has a point -- you might end up missing them. The big lugs sort of grow on you (ewwww, we know).

Yowl!!! We made a big mistake, didn't we? We didn't think first. I know --- usually we're so smart. We should have told everyone how great these dogs are. After the dogs found out about a hub, they got on the computer and wrote one of their own. Mom is sure gonna be mad when she sees how they scratched her keyboard all up. Oh well. after people read their hub, maybe someone will want them afterall.
Mom thinks that is a real cool idea of making an imprint of your kitty's paw. We hope you and the pride are feeling better really soon!
Blackie and Callie
Princess and Pirate
I guess we are going to have to keep them afterall. We don't have any takers. Oh well. The dogs just published a post of their own. Don't believe them. As usual, they're lying.
Take care
Blackie and Callie

Great Hub, very funny. I love both dogs and cats pretty much equally, and currently have three cats, but I still chuckled over the 'conversation' between your two cats :)
