Why Do We Hate And Judge Other People?

When it comes to religion and personal beliefs, I am very open-minded.  I do not discriminate other people for their beliefs, and I don't expect others to discriminate me for my beliefs.  I have once been a pagan and a christian, and sometimes I combine the two beliefs.  What I want to write about is people who believe in a certain religion, but are hypocrital about it.  My title "Why Do We Hate And Judge Other People" contains the belief that just because you are not like them, why should you have the right to put them down?  I have a twitter account, and I saw this comment on my husband's account that is from a man who claims to be a christian and is praying that President Barack Obama should die and go to hell.  Now, let me ask you this, just because we do things that you don't agree to does not give anyone the right to discriminate or put down other people?  Now, I know that people are entitled to their opinions and beliefs, but sometimes people need to think before they say something because most of the time, it will offend the other person.  When I read this comment this morning, I was appalled and outraged because this is what makes christianity and most religions look bad in this society.

Number one, it doesn't matter who we are and what we do.  If you are a christian or whatever you believe in, God, or your God/Goddess, is about love not hate.  If one wishes death on someone and is a "true" christian or whatever religion, apparently that is what you call a hypocrite, and I feel that they should not be converted into that religion because it is representing everything against your God/Goddess, if you think about it.  I feel President Barack Obama is doing the best he can to make this country a better place.  Noone is perfect, and he is a human being just like everyone else.  What right does anyone have to say something like that?  We should all be supportive and encouraging in this society no matter who you are because, therefore, what planet do we live on?  In almost all religions, except a few, LOVE is mainly the right and true way.  Religion, by the way, is how we live our lives and view it, it is what we believe in to get us through the good and bad.  I really hope I am making sense out of this, but I am not done. This is one of the problems of today's society, everyone wants to discriminate and pass judgement on everyone and everything instead of being encouraging, understanding, and patient.  Where is the faith, people?  Where is the faith that all of us have inside ourselves?  Where is the love, the kindness, and patience in us?  We all possess it.

This world, today, I feel, has gotten much worse about discrimination against race, sexual orientation, religion, etc. Like I said before, it doesn't matter who we are or where we come from, but we are all human beings who are entitled to make mistakes, and are entitled to live the lives that we want to follow.  We all have to get along one way or another because all we have, is each other.  We are created equally.  All of us need to be more positive and optimistic about things instead of people being negative and pessimistic because karma is a good belief to me; what goes around comes around, and don't think that it won't sneak up on you for having a bad thought, such as wishing and praying death on someone.

So, why do we hate and judge other people?  It is because of our belief systems, and I believe that most religions teach us to have faith in ourselves and other people because having faith is what gets us through the good and the bad, although that may be hard.  How would you feel if someone hated you or judged you for your beliefs and for what you do?  How do you think President Barack Obama feels when people, like this "so called" christian prayed he would die and go to hell?  Sure he is tough as nails on the outside, but don't you think that he inside may feel like a failure, and don't you think that it doesn't hurt his self-esteem?  We all have feelings, and we all do the best we can with what we got.

well written, and even if I don't agree with what your personal view may be, I really love the point you make... basically boils down to live & let live as far as I'm concerned. Hate is probably the easiest emotion to have because it does not require a great deal of thinking... its almost a reflex. I made a statement on my blog that Gullibility is hereditary, and I suppose to a great extent hate is too. I grew up in a very racist environment, and the fact that I was supposed to hate anyone with a different color was only made clear to me when I was found as a child plying with a black kid... neither of us had any idea what the fuss was about, but suddenly there it was.. the hate. Not just from my family, no... he was shunned by his as well. We were still good friends when he died in a horrible accident about 10 years ago and we spent many a good time talking about the whole strange idea of hating for no reason.

OK, so my point here is, hatred is generally fueled by differences... it starts even in school, there's the IN crowd, the nerds, the jockstraps... all living in their little world and having very little respect for the other fractions... now scale that up by a couple of million and you have wars, terrorism and religious divide. The world is a cruel place, but a little understanding goes a long way.

The only thing really worth hating is crime, in which crime to the person and war are included.

If more people, regardless of their own personal opinion share your openness, well get to be decent to each other some day... or we'll kill enough people off on both sides till the differences disappear since there are only a hand full of humans anyway, and the whole thing will start over.

I definitely agree with Lee Boolean's comment. I think that you are very accurate in your position on hate. I have written similar articles and I believe that the only way we can improve the world is by getting together and promoting peace and tolerance, which leads to understanding. Please join me and read some of my Ministry blogs. Peace!

JSM, this is probably the first time the clergy agreed with anything I say, I don't want to jinx it. good to know there are still some decent people teaching religion though, thank you for that.
