Why Europe can kiss my Red White and Blue

In honor of July 4th and me winning beer pong yesterday...

I am putting on my Red,White and Blue unitard and waving the flag all weekend. I have not fallen victim to the self depreciation fad like some Americans and I am reintroducing patriotism to the masses. I love America, faults and all. It is time we remind ourselves and others why we are so full of ourselves.

I love America also! I can see why some people would be bitter about WWl and WWll. Haha. I don't know why Hannah Montana makes us fat and obnoxious. 354 different types of cereal is a good.. great thing! Yum. I am very thankful I was born here and looking forward to the Forth of July. Fireworks!

I am not sure yet. I guess Google made us lazy! Lol. I don't really know because that is part of the internet. George Bush could have made us obnoxious. Video games made us more fat and lazy. I guess there are a lot of things but I can't thing of any.

I needed this list, as I've been pretty disgusted with my government for the past 6 or 7 years. This list made me smile (monster rock concerts, yeah!!!) - except for McDonald's. Even Einstein, a German implant, liked it better here than there.

I would add Metallica. They don't make us fat or lazy... they're just awesome.

DJ, I think this hub is in response to this:  http://hubpages.com/hub/10-Annoying-Things-America

I realize that people like Snow, an American transplant (are they always the snottiest?), represent the worst of our perceptions of Europeans.  I like to think native Europeans aren't as obnoxious.

PS: I think it was "Tear down THIS wall."

Yea for the Red White & Blue!!  It's our holiday and we can celebrate and brag and why not??  You tickled my funnebone, mister!!  LOL

I love America and have no respect for those Americans who live abroad and criticize the Red White & Blue but call upon her forthwith should anything go wrong in the world.

Americans - live abroad if you so desire, and for those who still love America and are professional enough about it to speak of their home country with pride and respect to others, I salute you!!  No, we're not perfect, but neither is any other country!

For those who live abroad and ridicule Americans, I suggest you would seem more intelligent and gain more respect if you kept  patriotism and respect for your fellow citizens in your heart and mouth at the same time.

Those who lead secret lives, tell nothing about themselves, rake others over the coals, question all and portray themselves as all seeing and all knowing lack credibility due to the way they express their views.  Those who have a wicked tongue for all who dare to question them, but are quick to criticize others; step aside as we walk with American pride down life's journey.

They seem to confuse addressing the problems we face in our country and world, with blatantly over-looking all the good about the US of A.

I have no "bone" to pick with our foreign visitors who come to America, don't know the language, can't vote, can't drive, and don't understand our system or culture.

I encourage those who want to become a citizen to stay committed to that complicated process.  I admire their tenacity and desire.  I'm accepting.  I like immigrants and welcome all who can come legally and with the intent to work and support their families.

Wave the Red, White & Blue with US.  I want to learn about your customs, and encourage you to adopt to a few of ours.  Europe, do I hear you doing the same for US as they travel your way?  Do you want more than just our dollars?  Are you welcoming?

I will tell you the same thing I used to tell the parents of the students in my classroom...  "I won't believe or blame you for everything your child tells me about you, if you wont believe or blame me for everything your child tells you about me."

We are not totally repsonsible for everything our government does right or wrong.  Let us all get along in the spirit of being a good neighbor with many challenges and joys in common.

Funnebone, please feel free to ask me to shorten this comment as I got on a roll here.  Thank you for your "space."  and I'm proud to be an American, this is our holiday.

Great list!!! America may have its faults but it is still the best country to live in by far. Everyone criticizes us but then they all want to live here. Or else they come here to get an education and then go back to their country and use it against us. Yet they criticize our education system! God Bless America!!!

DJ do you see what you just did? You suggested that we act like assholes all of the time. Do you personally act like an asshole and if not do you feel that everyone else does?

If i ever move to france I will be sure to not act american, but I have no intention of moving to france or any other country. I am American, and I am everything that goes with it. I am not apologetic, I am proud. Proud that we are inovators, proud that we set the bar on many issues, proud that we are quick to lend a hand and proud that other countries look to us for help and support.

I doubt the New England Patriots sit around bemoaning themselves for their success. Everyone was a Yankees fan when they won their forst several championships but them people began to tear them doewn. It is human nature to tear attack number one, and that is what is going on now.

marisuewrites profile image

marisuewrites  says:

DJ, your question is mine and is the point...why DOES our being an American annoy some Europeans, either there or here? I for one certainly don't begrudge them their holidays, nor patriotism, but seems like I read much criticism on their side of our customs. What's it all about? We are seldom credited for anything; if it's a scientific breakthru, well "they" helped or did it first.

I think some hubbers are just reminded when they read a hub from someone in the European community being overly stuffed up with their ideas, while giving the thumb's down to Americans and criticizing the whole "lot" of us.

Sso, rah rah for the Red White and Blue as we near the 4th, as we wave to our neighbors across the waters.

And, it goes without saying, that numerous authors from Europe have been very respectful, and are excellent writers....I could name dozens on here!!

Peace, peace, let there be peace. =)

I love this hub and we should be proud of our country because every country on earth has its flaws.  One thing I find ironic is some Europeans love to hate the US, but they have no problem going on vacation here becausethey can buy so much here with the weaker dollar.  My former English roommate used to tell me how she hated this and that about America, which puzzled me as to why she was spending a year here as  foreign exchange student.  However, she quickly changed her mind when she discovered how great 100% pure orange juice is and many more options we have on menus in restaurants here.  She was used to only going to a restaurant with fish and chips, which made her love basic restaurants like Denny's here in the US.  Later she wrote me a letter telling me how she missed orange juice and Denny's, which really surprised me since she complained so much about what she hated about America during her year here.  Great hub funnebone.

Marisuewrites,

I have been told by some European friends they do not like America because they feel we are too nationalist. It seems now they are more into having a European Union and open borders, so they feel we should embrace this too. Honestly I do not know why they care, but it really seems to bother some Europeans I speak to.

Okay, I'll clarify.  I meant can't we just enjoy ourselves civilized instead of doing it with that pompous arrogant overtone.  I didn't realize this was a response to her hub.  It was rather small though and there wasn't much to it.  She put together a well-thought out and albeit critical view but that's just her.  I would never want to make a lazy hub just to contradict someone else.  That's just me.

It's just the tone of it makes me sad.  Even right now, after all that we've done with the ecomony getting worse, even now, we show no humility.

I consider HUMILITY to be an honorable trait.   I wasn't criticising America or Europe for that matter, I just wish it was less antagonistic.  Didn't you learn anything watching King George macho his way around the world with 100,000s of deaths that didn't need to happen.   That's my take.

Look around.  Take stock.  Think Smart.   Vote for CHANGE!

Why is it that she gets to be " just her" but I can't be "just me"?

I didn't write this solely based on her hub, I wrote it because I am tired of the crybaby attitude of this country.

What does King George have to do with " the country"? Do our beliefs, accomplishments and values change with every election?

No matter who wins in November America will still be America:t here will be rich and poor, sick and healthy, black and white. It amazes me that people think that if Obama wins raibows will spring from the corners of the country and converge into a magical pot of panecea potion.

Yes Americanism is a word.  Well if he had read my response he might have learned a few things about why Europeans feel this way towards America.  Let me boil it down for him: Americans have learned that nationalism makes us stronger, whereas Europeans learned that nationalism divided them during World War II.  America has blossomed and grown by uniting as a nation, even though some people love to live here today with the benefit of freedom of speech, which allows them to argue about every single little thing in America.  Every country has it flaws, but we are stronger to embrace our strong points.  If you were to only tell a kid about his flaws he could never grow or change.  I believe in accentuating the positive myself.

Her say and your say. teh. Laughable. A VERY lazy hub IMO, you claim they justify obnoxious behaviour but say nothing to back it up. Lame list too.

The Obama comment is so textbook I can't even justify it with a response. What's next? "I know you are but what am I?"

I personally think if we STOPPED rejecting things European for 5 MINUTES we could steal some of their ideas BUT NO. That would be.....UNAMERICAN. Ha!

But CHANGE is something you mock.

I happen to have a history degree so what I wrote is well informed.  Europeans loath nationalism because of their experiences with World War II.  I am not rejecting anything European, I have had many European friends, so do not jump to conclusions.  I really think you are not listening to anyone.  Anyway, stop captalizing certain words because that is annoying.

PS: I never said criticizing America was anti-American and neither did Funnebone. I just pointed out that living here affords you the luxury to do that. I thought the other hub on rude Americans was really rude. I think if she really feels that way, she should quit her job where she hears these things and quit going to these places that "Rude Americans go to". I was surprised on how many people thought it was funny. I kind of hurt my feelings that people view us like that and because it was said in a serious tone, not humorous. She claims that she heard these things many times but many times should not reflect on a country being obnoxious and stuck up.

FACT:  No sports figures EVER want to play in Philly.  Comedians too avoid it like the plague.  Why?

Because IT AIN'T GOT NO BROTHERLY LOVE TO SPEAK OF.

Because the people there don't respect anyone.  They just yell and scream because it's their God given right.   Comedians don't even bother going there AT ALL because the people there just try to run you off the stage.

Yes, he did a fine job as president. He did what he thought was right and that is all you can do.

You can but you probably don't want to.

We did not invade Iraq because of oil. They attacked us. Ever heard of 9/11? We didn't even know it was coming. They killed innocent lives and families were torn apart. Tater2tor, then why did you invade Iraq then ? Where are those weapons of mass destruction ? And who is responsible for the 9/11 ?

Einstein was from Germany, but moved to America, as so many other great figures from around the world have done... and many have NOT.

As Tatertot said, the Soviets invented the Tsar bomb. We, with the help of Germany immigrant Oppenheimer, invented the Fat Man and Little Boy bombs.

Our health care system is a national disgrace and, in my opinion, a global embarrassment. Hopefully we can fix it.

I feel about GeorgeW. Bush the same I feel about our health care system, but I'm an American, that's my right, and my right to speak out about it.

What does hip-hop have to do with anything? I don't like it, but so what? Stupid comment.

How many ethnic slaughterings are going on, and have been going for a very long time in Africa?

Sorry Tatertot, but Iraq did NOT attack us, Al Qaida did. and they had absolutely nothing to do with Iraq. Make no mistake about it, our invasion of Iraq was about oil because our reserves peaked in the 70s. If we'd been retaliating for 9/11 we would have attcked Afghanistan, where the terrorists who attacked us were hiding. These are facts.

Joaojeronimo, I'll "kiss the whole world's huge ass" if you'll kiss mine. Pucker-up, butter cup!

And I'm with SweetiePie regarding your last weird-ass statement. Are you threatening us?

marisuewrites profile image

joao, I think you need to explain your electric chair remark.  You obviously have issues with American patriotism and truth; but seem well entrenched in a certainly belief that is prevelant in the Middle Eastern countries against us.  I find that particularly curioius.

We know 9/11 did not stem from Iraq, though they were kissing cousins to the thoughts and actions that brought 9/11 to pass.  I don't think we need threats to discuss honest issues.  Let's keep it out of the gutter as we talk, please?  Of course we think more about the US than about the world, that is a human characteristic.  We must protect our interests and life.  I don't agree with all that our government has done with their invasions.  That doesn't mean we even compare to war mongers.

Dj, unfortunately, the person who wrote the Americans are Rude hub does not tolerate much in the way of 2nd opinions; can't have an honest discussion when your comments are constantly deleted and only the hubber gets to criticize.  I will not address that person directly about anything anymore as it is to no respectful end.  However, it has spurred hubs from hubbers who see us as good people, in some trouble, but still a generous nation.

I think originally we were trying to tell obnoxious "anyone" to back off and let us be Americans when we are visiting their country and here.  It's rude to make fun of us when we're there and we shouldn't do it to them when they are here.  We have differences and should be adult about it.  I don't know that we need to get into a Pi....sin  contest as to who is worse or better.

I sure don't want to be told off by someone living in Europe when they don't even know me and lump me into a category with someone laughing loud in a restaurant.  Are they truly that intolerant?

I think the whole issue is tolerance, really.  Peace, guys.  Dj, it's dangerous territory to criticize a writer's hub in that way....we writers have fragile egos...lol  even me,   especially me,  I'm a whiney baby.  I'm weak.  Don't make me come over there@@!!    (teasing)  say you're sorry:  You love the list:  the hub is awesome; etc etc.  k?  (Now, don't yell at me,  I'm just trying to extend an olive branch here...)

Why do you turn against Africa when you get poked lol ? Didn't anyone teach you guys you don't need to atack others to defend yourselves ? YES, Africa is poor but it's working it's way out of poverty. My country is one of the top 10 in GDP growth, and I know it's because we're comming from nothing to something, but it's a start...

We are not responsible for ethnic slaughterings. The african political map was sliced by europeans in the Berlin Conference. African tribes glot splitted, enemy tribes got joined...

You americans are such...I dunno... But who told you Al Qaeda atacked you ? WHERE'S THE PROOF ?? And I can't believe in what I just read... You're saying you did not attack Afghanistan ?? Google for "War in Afghanistan", the first thing you'll find is "The War in Afghanistan, which began on October 7, 2001, was launched by the United States".

I'm not threatening, I'm using my freedom of expression right... feel bad about it ? Then tell your american friends and then shut me up :)

My only issue with the US is when I see people like you guys that think you're living in the best country of the world and tell people to kiss your asses... you have to agree that this is just as stupid as my comment about rap/hip-hop.

Don't you think you're harming other countries just to protect yours ? It's also a good humans characteristic to help the next one and mankind.

I'm glad you're starting to realize some points of what I'm trying to tell. Every country has bad sides and you just can't say you're the best and tell everyone to kiss your asses... And it's a shame you turn against Africa to defend yourselves

Constant Walker profile image

Joao, I'm not turning against Africa. I think it is a beautiful continent. I used it as an example to show that all countries, including yours, have their horrors. At no time did I attack anyone to defend anything. You are applying your preconceived ideas to me and all Americans.

You,sir, started the whole Kiss My Ass thing, or have you forgotten "You can kiss the whole world's huge ***!" These are your words.

I was unaware we'd attacked Afghanistan in 2001. My mistake. Bush told so many lies during that time anddid so many asinine things, it was hard to keep track. I guess he actually did one thing right?

Your comment about the electric chair was a threat. You have every right to say it, I guess, in Africa, but here's it's a threat. In America it borders on illegal to threaten another person with bodily harm.

SweetiePie, let's just end it all right here.  I don't like your attitude either so let's just leave it alone forever.  Just because we don't agree and I think you are predictable doesn't mean I degrade you.  It just means you are unoriginal.  For you to compare my lists to funne's is exactly my point.

Why are you getting involved?  I seriously doubt that this half-assed off-the-cuff list could compare to one of mine which take days to compile.

Don't hold your breath on that apology.  I felt that funnebone and I could have had a decent back and foirth before you got in the middle.  Don't ever address me in the forums and on Hubs and we'll go our seperate ways.  :D

I was over it a few minutes ago.  However, I do not think my responses are unoriginal.  I just think you feel I am not cool like some other hubbers, that is all.  You make that clear every time. Also, I have a right to respond to anything written here just as you do. So silly. However, I will never mention you again as this is what you want. I just do not like to see people criticized and I stand up to that, which is why I responded originally. I worry too much about comments others make that can be harsh, and I really was feeling bad for Funnebone when you said some of those things. However, I am sure he is not worried about it.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together??  Hey, we're the A Team, the American Team...we should disagree without getting personal, yes?  Sweetie Pie, I love your hubs and respect your knowledge of history, in fact I am going to put in a request for you to talk about Nationalism and why the Eropeans have that opinion of us.  It's been a long time since I studied History, and I'd like to know more about their definition of Nationalism as it applies to America.  =)  I think you're the woman for the job to teach me.

Joao, if you had just disagreed, without the threat, you would have had a measure of credibility.  You threw that out the window when you began to imply death...  still don't understand the implication.  It's not acceptable for any reason...we don't yell threats to incite others here.

We, meaning Americans, are not out the get the world, neither can we let -- ahem, as bad as I hate to say this, the terrorists get a stronghold on Middle Eastern Oil.  Now, that does not mean I agree with how Iraq or Iran, or Afghanistan is being handled.  And, Joao, I think Al Queada has already claimed responsibility for 9/11.  Guess we'll have to take their word on it...

DJ, are you really mad at Sweetie Pie?  I don't think you really are...we all have strong opinions...we're trying to barbque the people who criticize us without true cause, and we've ended up skewering ourselves in the process.  ouch!

DJ, you have always treated people farily in comments, what's happening here? =)

This list was meant to be humorous/truthful, and funnebone accomplished that.  I don't think he was writing a piece for a dissertation submission.

I love America, we all love America with the exception of Joao, and that's ok...he won't stay long probably.

Let's turn the page back to civility?  Sweetie Pie, I'll do an offical request as I truly would like to more about the subject of Nationalism.  I've always thought that meant looking out for yourself, but does it mean to the extreme level?  Is it cousin to Isolationism?  I really don't know...ready to read!!

come on, guys,  you are all among my favorite people here!!

Alvin Toffler had an interesting theory in one of his recent books, Revolutionary Wealth. He commented that nothing upsets people more than changing their perception and use of time itself . . . just try making someone hurry in the Post Office and you'll see what he means.

The U.S. has always marched to the beat of its own, different drummer. We came into both World Wars in our own good time. Our military changed the pace of warfare multiple times over the previous 100 years. The Internet, Fed Ex, high-speed action movies, fast food, instant credit, etc., all have changed the speed of the world. And Europe, among many other parts of the globe, are scrambling to catch up--and griping about it every step of the way.

As Toffler also pointed out, only now is Europe starting to put together their own GPS satellite system.

Are European scientists good? Of course. Do they necessarily get the financing necessary to to perform underlying research, such as the space program which has had so many spin-offs? All too often, no. Another point of jealousy.

Did you know the U.S., in the form of Edgar Allen Poe, invented the mystery novel? Give the English credit here: they knew a good thing when they read it and took off running.

I reserve the right to love funnebone and be annoyed by SweetiePie.  She is sweet sure but she always gets involved in other people's debates and then screams about how she has the right to this and that and before you know it, the point is lost.  It kills all the momentum dealing with her semantics.

I realize the list was just done in fun but what is it?  70 words.  To attack Europe?  It just seemed to me the wrong time for such idiocy.  I'm embarassed at times how ignorant and proud about it we can be.  NOT Everyone.  Just people who say, hey you, kiss my ass!

I'm always honest and sharp in my comments.  Just how I roll.  And I invite challenges.

America has contributed a lot of good things and a lot of bad things to the world.

I confess I'm not all that much of a flag waver. After 9/11 I bought a flag and hung it at half mast for the people who died. But usually I'm kind of a commie, and lucky for me I live in a country that supposedly protects my right to be one (at least for now it does, so long as I'm not too loud about it).

Hi people, is it safe for an European to enter in this hub!? LOL

I must say I can not understand why you Americans feel so offended by European´s opinion about you...

One thing I know for sure, Europeans don´t show any angry feelings against your opinion of us. I have said this once and I will say it again: Americans are like young kids who feel like they have grown up completely and this is not a criticism, it´s the reality. America is a young country, specially if compared with other countries but that don´t make you less important in the world, but certainly should make you less arrogant and more humble. But like it happens when older people try to teach something to kids it´s most certain that kids will do things their way and learn with the mistakes ;)

That said, I would like to add Apple and MS, well after all I´ll add only Apple. I´m not talking about the fruit of course, I´m talking about good computers :D

Have fun, wherever you are ;)

I'm sorry, Smiling Cat but I'm afraid that spam is British. According to (ao) Wikipedia t is widely believed the term spam is derived from the 1970 SPAM sketch of the BBC television comedy series "Monty Python's Flying Circus".[10]

The sketch is set in a cafe where nearly every item on the menu includes SPAM luncheon meat. As the waiter recites the SPAM-filled menu, a chorus of Viking patrons drowns out all conversations with a song repeating "SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM... lovely SPAM, wonderful SPAM", hence "SPAMming" the dialogue. The excessive amount of SPAM mentioned in the sketch is a reference to British rationing during World War II.[citation needed] SPAM was one of the few meat products that avoided rationing, and hence was widely available.

The only reason I ask is because I am of the opinion that the reason you conservatives (and I do like quite a few conservatives actually) are spreading this whole Don't be Embarassed campaign because you guys know it was your President who caused us all to feel this way.

I don't remember having ANY apologetic tendencies before George decided to play the Boardgame Risk using real people.

After we were attacked we had the whole world concerned for us if anything.  THEN, when Georgie decided that he exploit the fears of his own citizens in order to start a whole new war that had no business being on the table according to ALL the experts he talked to about it.

THEN, he winks at his rich brethren with that smug smile and said, "oh don't worry friends we ain't paying for this crap.   You guys don't even need to pay taxes as far as I'm concerned.  He He he"

I mean, seriously.  The guy is so smug and assinine that when he smiles it's like he's saying "Haha liberals, you can't touch this!'  and "Haha conservatives, I'm not listening and I don't care what the parties ideals are. I'm the new sheriff in this town.  and finally "Haha Dad.  Mr, former President, I don't need your help either!"

The guy said "bring it on" to our terrorist enemies.  That's a fine President?  vomitous burp

Okay you're turn Funnebone!

Dj please show me where your quote came from.

516 I don't think people would eb all over them. I think it would end up looking just like this hub and like jo the crazy africans hub where people are afraid to stand up for their country and for themselves.

Just look at DJ's comments throughout. Liberals like to distance themselves from being americans when it suits them. He refers to Bush as " your president", as if dj checked out of being american 7 years ago. I have a greater faith in my countrymen than to think their alligence is deeper than one man or woman who may be president.

New Orleans was a failure of many systems. From the Top all the way down to the individuals. It is typical spin to demonize the president as if he was expected to be down there rowing a canoe picking up stranded people. Liberals like DJ feel they have compassion copyrighted and are the only ones to feel it.

Dj makes fantastic lists of music and movies that we all enjoy. Many of the movies contain subject matter and themes that could not be explored in many of the worlds societies, Afganastan and Iraq being two of them. It is somewhat disturbing that hollywood and the arts crowd are the first to bash our country when people try to protect our way of life but these same people are the most guilty of exploiting the same rights that need protecting.

The person who wrote the HUB about american tourists doesnt allow comments that disagree with her views. While I have never conversed with her about that or any other matter, I find the situation to be quite reflective of the liberal philosophy of "my way is the only way"

DJ (whom I use only because he keeps providing fodder) keeps going back to pointing out negativities in our country and almost all of his points are political. There have been several different CEOS of Chrysler but the company remained fairly the same throughout its history. Lee Iococa was perhaps credited with turning the company around, but it nevber changed its name to iacoca, it remaine dits own entity.

THis country is always concerned about impotrance of the individual but whenever fashionable or convienient people are quick to try and find someone to point a finger to.

DJ even has the balls to come here and leave comments after he deleated a very little playful one I left on his hub.

The title of my post was addressed to Americans who look down on Americans. Had I know there would be so many I would have made it even more antagonistic.

I called him YOUR President because I didn't vote for him and at that time I was sure you did.  thus your President.

Why does me calling it Your President make me a convenient American?

As a voice of dissent I am preserving the most important thing about being an American.  being free.

I noticed you didn't touch on any of my points either.

MY ENTIRE POST:

He He he" I mean, seriously.  The guy is so smug and assinine that when he smiles it's like he's saying "Haha liberals, you can't touch this!'  and "Haha conservatives, I'm not listening and I don't care what the parties ideals are. I'm the new sheriff in this town.  and finally "Haha Dad.  Mr, former President, I don't need your help either!" The guy said "bring it on" to our terrorist enemies.  That's a fine President?  vomitous burp Okay you're turn Funnebone!

AND YOU ADRESSED NADA.

Sorry for the confusion.  I really thought you said that about Bush.

You can keep referring to me as "People like DJ" and put words in my mouth all you want.  (It's becoming an art) But you didn't touch one of my points.

NOT ONE.  Don't get me wrong, I like the back and forth but you're almost the host of a FoxNews Broadcast the way you put words in other people's mouths and ignore their points.

Regarding me deleting our convo, I'm so burnt that I didn't even remember it was you or what we were talking about.   Still don't.  i'm sure I wrote you to expain why I did so.  Believe me I got lotsa faults.  Fodder :)

We can play together but don't treat me like a blind liberal and make generalizations about me as a person.  I got a close eye on Obama and have always respected the way McCain doesn't play ball with a lot of the jack-ass stuff that goes on like racial slogans.

And don't even get me started on those DIEBOLD machines.  Anyone who can't see that we were swindled is truly blind to the writing on the wall.

Respectfully,

Jamie

(It sounds weird to hear you call me DJ cause that's my job, not my name.)

My list

Gullibility

Pride

Stubbornness

Cowboys

The top of the list should be the right to be naive and gullible to a long term political marketing plan which just happens to be the most successful ever. Keep repeating the same fantasy perspective and they will start to believe.

I am very proud of America and My President (yes both times) and think he has done a fantastic job in keeping this country going after a major economic hit and in taking the fight to extremism. It might not have been pretty but damn effective. He might be a cowboy but I like and respect cowboys, they tend to be dogged in finishing the job of protecting you. They also are willing to stand by themselves when everyone else wimps out.

And just to clarify about the Iraq war. There are still many who believe that the larger act of promoting freedom in that part of the world is about the only avenue in combating extremism. The brutality and actions of Saddam was reason enough for this to be the beginning. But explaining this takes more than I am willing to do.

Next point, Has anyone heard anything about the French People electing a government who is now supporting America (read Bush). I happened to see the new president's first dinner at the White House, he sure sounded like he was apologizing for his countries previous actions regarding Iraq. Funny you don't hear anything about the changes of thought after the riots and battles they had.

Also on the list should be the fact that while young, this country has shown up to fight and win our friends battles saving them from some really unpleasant tyrannies. Yes this has a tendency to garner a very huge case of pride.

We know that the children and grandchildren of those we helped can get a little resentful of the fact that we earned our place at the top and it is natural for them to want to knock us off. I understand this and am willing to let it slide unless they push too hard which they have done in regards to iraq. Then I ignore them. ( yes I watched most of the debates within the UN and saw not conviction, but jealousy as the motivator to opposition to the Iraq plan.)

Not to mention the fact that the whole world had a chance to stand together against extremism and give it close to a deathblow but instead petty differences have once again allowed it to flourish. Thankfully America stood up to it at least for a while.

Drive-Ins with vanilla and cherry coke. Sonic....and the old Red Rooster in El Paso, Tx. Walmart, if you can't find it in Walmart you can't find it. Country Music.

I love America and always will, not that I wouldn't mind visiting Europe, someday hope to get there.

Good List funnebone - The Moon Walk - as in space travel and  The Moon Walk as in Michael Jackson (before his problems beset him). I think  that because America is such a young and vibrant country (as is Australia) innovation, risk taking and much lateral thinking by clever people enhances your/our way of looking at issues to find quick and efficient or even adventurous solutions that on occasion can pay off big time. ie space travel & the internet to name just a couple.
