Starting in freelancing

Freelance work, or freelancing. Which ever you want to call it essentally means you are hired for one specific job. Not full-time or part-time, just for a specific project at a specific time.

This is pretty scary if you are used to guaranteed full time employment. However, for some, it could be the prefect type of career for them. Many are looking for work at home, but aren’t sure what they want to (or can) do. They then jump at the first “scam” opportunity that comes their way only to find out that after six weeks with this company it’s not at all what they thought. They quit the freelance life, never to return.

However, for the brave, there are many great opportunities for freelancers.

Start where you are.

You don't have to redefine who you are and what you do. By now you'll no doubt have a set of skills that you can examine and see whether they will translate into freelance skills that people will pay you for.

Can you write well?

  • Can you organise other people's tasks
  • Can you sell?
  • Can you illustrate?

Whatever your core skills, I can guarantee you that some busy businessman is willing to pay you to do the tasks he or she doesn't have time for.

Once you have worked this out, then you are ready for your freelance adventure. Here's some sites to get you going:

Good Luck!
