Google has been voted twice the best place in the world to work. Google offers many benefits to its employees, but most important among them is high salaries according to Indeed.com.

Google has been named twice as the best place to work by Fortune magazine. Google offers free gourmet meals, bus shuttle service, flexible hours, child care services, free massages, pets, professional haircuts and many more.

Will these be sufficient enough for Google employees? Maybe so but they receive some of the best salaries in the world.

Here are some data gathered from Indeed.com, a job search engine company:

Google Programmer in Phoenix - $174,000/year

Google Programmer in California - $197,000/year

Google Programmer in Chicago - $222,000/year

Google Programmer in New York - $242,000/year

Besides the salary, Google offers the following financial benefits to its employees:

1. Google pays $8,000 per year to any employee who will continue their education. The only condition they require at least B Grade in their classes.

2. If you refer another employee to Google and if they stay for more than 60 days, Google pays them $2,000 as bonus.

3. If you adopt a kid while working in Google, they pay you $5,000 towards legal and adoption fees.

4. Based on your work experience, Google will offer you up to 25 days paid vacation a year.

According to New York Times, there are at least 1,000 employees at Google with stock option worth more than $5 million. Some are calling them with a new name Googlenaires. Even after working in Google at a year, they are worth more than $250,000. Google’s former masseuse became a millionaire working for Google.

The competing firms say Google alone has raised the average programmer’s salary by 50% over the last few years.

Besides the above, Google offers the following benefits to its employees, these are just a few examples, for more click here:

• Maternity Benefits: 12 weeks off at 75% pay.

• Google matches contributions of up to $3000 per year from eligible employees to non-profit organizations.

• Food

Hungry? Check out our free lunch and dinner – our gourmet chefs create a wide variety of healthy and delicious meals every day. Got the munchies? Google also offers snacks to help satisfy you in between meals.

• On-site Doctor

At Google headquarters in Mountain View, California you have the convenience of seeing a doctor on-site. • Shuttle Service

Google is pleased to provide its Mountain View employees with free shuttles to several San Francisco, East Bay and South Bay locations.

• Financial Planning Classes

Google provides objective and conflict-free financial education classes. The courses are comprehensive and cover a variety of financial topics.

• Other On-Site Services

At Google headquarters in Mountain View, there’s on-site oil change, car wash, dry cleaning, massage therapy, gym, hair stylist, fitness classes and bike repair.

• Other Great Benefits

Ski trip, company movie day, summer picnic, Halloween & holiday party, health fair, quarterly group offsites, credit union, sauna, roller hockey, outdoor volleyball court, discounts for products and local attractions.

No wonder Google is the best place to work and their employees turn out some of the best products in the world.

I think for most of us, google it's the "dream work". If many companies followed what google offers to is employees, working for other would be a very nice thing :)

I agree, others don't have to offer as much, but even if they provide some will be great.

How is their policy on telecommuting? I think the option to telecommute at least part of the time is essential to supporting employees who also have families.

Stacie, they have an excellent Shuttle service with Free WiFi, so they can commute long without any problems. They also have incentives for hybrid powered cars, they used to give them rebates before, don't know whether it is still there.

Right, but telecommuting is being able to work without leaving your home. Do you know if they offer that options to some of their employees? Microsoft does it for many of their employees.

Gadzooks, anyone can apply, they require a broad range of employees in diverse fields. You can search at Indeed.com or you can search Google itself.

Stacie, sorry, they also have that service for pregnant women and injured staff, they can work at  home. Most of them have chat and conferencing services so they are abe to talk with their co-workers and bosses. They have the highest maternity benefits. Microsoft also might offer some but they are like 87 in the top 100 companies to work for.

I don't think Microsoft is the best company to work for, but I do like their telecommuting options (I was just using them as an example). It is great to hear all of this stuff about Google. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Stacie, I am glad Microsoft is doing it, it makes sense for those who like to stay home and watch their children.

Holy crap! Do they need article writers?

Very nice article, but it made me a little green. :)

Shirley, I think so, they may need article writers as well to spread news. For them every part of the job is important that is why they do this for everyone from head to toe. Cheers :)

WOW sounds like a dream place work, and of course you did not mention the biggest perk, Google programmers get to laugh at the rest of us who have to try to figure out the latest G algorothims for Search Engine Optimization!! Wink!!

Wow thats incredible. Are you working there too chris Good luck to them. People sure need incentive to work these days. A lot of people are too lazy to get off of there butts. Companies cannot get workeres, because they cannot afford to pay all the penalities and insurances etc. Very interesting

My2Cents, yes I agree, they wouldn't mind revealing the secrets, but sadly people are exploiting it.

Qytalot. Here is a link for 100s of Google Jobs, http://www.google.com/intl/en/jobs/ Cheers :)

I wish Eileen I could work there :) It will be a great place to work though. I found if you keep the workers happy, they will do incredible jobs. My friend used to say, "You get what you paid for". Also, there is an ad "Happy Cows Make Great Cheeses". :)

cgull8m,

It sounds as if they are passing their success on to their employees, and that it is proving that when one is happy all are happy. I am glad to read about these perks that are offered there. All too often the "big guy" forgets that it takes the "little guy" to make things run smoothly. It sounds like google values all their employees, almost making it too good to be true! lol Great Hub.

I keep checking for jobs at Google. They have an office in Waterloo...my neck of the woods. Unfortunately, I need a job that doesn't require an IT degree :)

cgull8m profile image

cgull8m  says:

Inthedoghouse, thanks. I agree it just takes a little to take care of the employees, they will do well. Most cases the owners pay the manageres well and treat employees shoddy like McDonald's, Bojangles, Burger King that is why it is very hard to get good customer service. Even if they give a percentage of the profits they will do more business.

Uninvited Writer. Check them up again, they have a variety of job requirements, they are also involved in Charities, Education, so they may need non-IT degree holders.

Google's benefits seem to definitely "motivate" their employees. Despite providing so many benefits and services, and spending so much money on satisfying their employee's needs, Google still seems to have one of the most successful and rapidly growing businesses. Somehow I get the feeling that employee satisfaction and business success are closely interrelated.

cgull8m profile image

cgull8m  says:

Tms94, I also think the same, they are definitely connected together. With all these perks I am sure the employees are a motivated bunch and if you can ask them to do anything, they will do it without hesitation. That is why Google has this theme, "Don't Be Evil" as the motto for them and their employees. http://investor.google.com/conduct.html

cgull8m profile image

Thanks WeddingConsultant,Stephhick. I think with these benefits will help them motivate to do a great job. Besides they provide even more benefits with stock plan if they really excel and create innovative products. It is a win-win situation for Google. Another indicator is job retention, even though some leave Google, they leave because they want to make it big on their own, whereas in other places they look for a better job and leave.
