I have to admit I love being an Aussie, I live only 5 minutes from the beach so I decided to write this hub "Why holiday in Australia". Well I'm going to tell you why and if you do come over to Western Australia you can look me up. I love to have a nice cold beer and put a couple of shrimps on the Bbq. Let's face it you can't beat watching the sun go down in the evening behind a beautiful ocean. The sun looks like a ladder that travels out to the sky and beyond. We have the most amazing fields of wild flowers that remind you of the very same oceans of our west. Yes we are from a lucky country and we love to share with the world the wonder of our flora and forna from our noble emblem animal of Kangaroo's to the favourites of everyone the koala. We can have the best of the coast to the very best of our Forrest's even the dry earthy country. There is everything to suit every person, if your wanting the quiet time at a cozy winery to the busy drum of our cities. You can find that piece of tranquility that suits your needs. The people of Australia are very warming and we will do just about anything to help anyone and we'll do it with a she'll be right mate and a smile even a thumbs up. Being a country surrounded by oceans we have a great range of sea-food for the sea-food lovers (which I am one) and we have really good produce and the supplies for our meats we know are really great here too. Our wineries are world renowned and sort after as too are our beers that very popular as anyone would know Aussie's love their beer.

We have a great array of sports to meet every-ones needs anything from Football (Aussie Rules), Cricket, Golf, Soccer and many many more, if your a surfer well you'll be in heave on our coasts so many to choose from take a walk anywhere and you'll find it running. To top it all off we have a lot of great weather in Australia sure we do get winter and some places suffer a little more than others but in our country we kind of don't mind it being we do have a very dry climate also, our summers are really hot too so that's another reason to crack another tinny (beer). Geography

Australia is bounded by the Arafura and Timor Seas to the north, the Coral and Tasman Seas of the South Pacific to the east, the Southern Ocean to the south, and the Indian Ocean to the west. Its coastline, including islands, covers 59,736km (37,119 miles).

Most of the population has settled along the eastern and southeastern coastal strip. Australia is the smallest continent (and the largest island) in the world. About 40% of the continent is within the tropics and Australia is almost the same size as the mainland of the United States of America. The terrain is extremely varied, ranging from baking red desert to lush green rainforest. Australia's beaches and surfing are world-renowned, while the country is also rich in reminders of its long history: these range from prehistoric Aboriginal art to Victorian colonial architecture.

The landscape consists mainly of a low plateau mottled with lakes and rivers and skirted with coastal mountain ranges, highest in the east with the Great Dividing Range. There are rainforests in the far northeast (mainly in Queensland). The southeast is a huge fertile plain. Further to the north lies the enormous Great Barrier Reef, a 2,000km (1,200-mile) strip of coral that covers a total area of 345,000 sq km (133,000 sq miles).

Although Australia is among the driest lands on Earth, it nevertheless has enormous snowfields, the size of Switzerland. There are vast mineral deposits. More detailed geographical descriptions of each state can be found in the individual state entries.

Electricity

220/240 volts AC, 50Hz. Three-pin plugs are in use, however sockets are different from those found in most countries and an adaptor socket may be needed. Outlets for 110 volts for small appliances are found in most hotels

Social Conventions

A largely informal atmosphere prevails; shaking hands is the customary greeting. Casual wear is worn everywhere except in the most exclusive restaurants social gatherings and important business meetings. Most restaurants forbid smoking.

Where the bloody hell are you?

Great article, as one aussie to another you have done a great job. This should bring everyone flocking to our west coast, then they can watch the eagles fight back to the top. Cheers. Thanks for writing this.

You can tell by name where I love to be! I'm now an Aussie, but originally from UK. I have lived in Sydney, Melbourne and now the Gold Coast - and Australia is just awesome.

Thanks for raising awareness for Australia.

I have a hub about the Gold Coast - with some reasons to visit!
