Horton Hears a Who..It's the classic teaching of 'Take care in what you do for it will have more impact than you probably realize.'

On the fifteenth of May, in the jungle of Nool,
In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool,
He was splashing…enjoying the jungle’s great joys…
When Horton the elephant heard a small noise.

I watched this very recently as an adult thinking what a magical story, what an amazing lesson to teach my little boy. He's only two right now but in a few more years I will make sure he sees this one, and talks about it with me.
There can be so many underlying plots to this story. Could it really be about Pro Life; some have said that the great line, “A person’s a person no matter how small” has an inference to pro-lifers it really simply means that everyone can make a difference and sometimes a seemingly 'little person' can have great impact.

It's the perfect antidote for these complex times we live in. Simply stated, there is a heck of a lot going on around us that there is no way we can see or understand most of it. But - if we take care to give a hand to those that obviously need a little nudge in the right direction the world as a whole will certainly be stronger for it.

There are so many wondrous lines in this story. They can either make you think about all sorts of deeper meanings or simply make you smile with their cuteness. Like this one for example -

And Horton called back, “I can hear you just fine.
But the kangaroos’ ears aren’t as strong, quite, as mine.

Now is the author saying that some have perceptions that are greater, that we should listen to these people and trust them on things that we cannot observe ourselves or was he just making up a cute rhyme? Why don't you share your thoughts below in a comment.

This mini Hub was an answer to the question 'What is your favorite Dr. Seuss story'. What's yours?

“From the sun in the summer. From rain when it’s fall-ish,
I’m going to protect them. No matter how small-ish!”

Dr. Seuss

I agree...this is an awesome Hub.

Furthermore, this is definitely one of the best Dr. Seuss books. There are so many good ones, but this is near the top.

I used to work at a movie theater and watched this film before it even opened. I was 22 at the time, and was so thoroughly impressed with the movie itself, and with the way in which they put Dr. Seuss' words and meaning into moving animation.

I don't think the "how small" line has anything to do with pro-lifers. I think you are right in saying that a person can have an effect no matter what.

This is good food for thought! Thanks!
