Why I Love Great Danes

My Great Danes have created some of the most enriching moments in my life. In fact, I struggle to think of a time that those gentle giants (to use the popular term) didn't have a positive impact in my life. They truly are an extraordinary breed. Aside from their size, Great Danes are known for their spectacular personalities, temperaments, characters, and unconditional devotion to their owners.

Though the biggest breed of dog, Great Danes are peaceful enough to play with toddlers around. Their size, grace, and overall majestic bearing is unequalled in the dog world. That being said, they are also very protective of those they love, so as much as they are slow and kind, they are also terrific for protection.

Great Danes are perfectly suited to the dog owner with a good sense of humor. Sloppy and slobbery, Great Danes are big, messy babies. Remember, too, that they can get into mischief in places that other dogs simply cannot reach - so it's best if you always keep a close eye on the Thanksgiving turkey once it's out of the oven!

Most Great Dane owners will agree with my belief that because these dogs are so large, it also means that they have big hearts. They are oblivious to their own size, and are completely happy being there to love you and be loved by you.

Though they can be very active dogs, they don't need to be. Their great size doesn't necessarily mean great energy. If you want to take your Great Dane for a walk, then s/he will be game for that. However, if you just feel like lazing in front of the television for the weekend, your Great Dane will be perfectly happy to curl up with you and watch all of your favorite movies.

No matter what you're doing, living with a Great Dane is certain to be an interesting experience. They clearly think that they're just one of the family, and want to be involved in everything that you do during the day. If you think that it'd be impossible to trip over such an enormous dog, you would be very wrong.

For gentle, elegant affection that knows when to be fun, a Great Dane cannot be matched.
