I was not a big fan of Star Trek. I didn’t watch the TV series much when it was on in re-runs and I didn’t watch the big blockbuster films that were made previously. I knew enough about the show to know and recognise the main characters; Captain James T Kirk, Mr Spock, Uhuru and Scotty.

I became a fan when Star Trek – The Next Generation hit the screens. I loved Captain Jean-Luc “Make it so” Picard, Commander Riker (gorgeous) and the grumpy features of Wharf.

This week I decided to go along and see what all the fuss was about regarding Star Trek 2009. I went to watch the new incarnation of Star Trek my local cinema on Orange Wednesday. I have to admit to the world. I absolutely loved it!

There was so much humour in the film. I laughed out loud quite a few times. The actor playing James Tiberius Kirk (Chirs Pine) was a heart throb and I thought that Zachary Quinto playing Spock was fantastic. I am sure that the fact we recognised him from the character he played in the TV show “Heroes” – Sylar – helped immensely.

Zoe Saldana who played Uhuru was beautiful. Difficult to say if she was able to elevate above the title of “token girl in movie”.

The storyline was a good choice although I always get confused when talking about stuff like the space time continuum (love that phrase), and meeting your future self. I got a bit lost as to what time zone we were supposed to be in during the Romulan attack but i didn't allow myself to get down with the logic and logistics of the story and I found that this didn’t really matter. There was enough interesting stuff going on to keep you well and truly occupied and it all made sense in the end.

Simon Pegg, a Brit favourite, was super as Scotty and his Scottish accent was, in my humble opinion, brilliant.When I saw him interviewed on The Jonathan Ross Show, he would not show his accent skills.  He didn't want to spoil it for people.  He is married to sa scottish woman so I am sure she made sure he didn't embarrass her or her family.  Job well done Mr Pegg.

I look forward to the future franchises of this film as the success of number one will surely guarantee Star Trek 2 and 3.

A word about William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk. I bet he is really pissed that he missed out on this gig and didn’t get the chance for a cameo. Ha ha.
