Why I Think That We Need To Be More Educated About World War Two
49Comprehension Enables Feelings
World War One and World War Two were events that changed the history of the world. But how much do we really know about them, in particular about World War Two which was not only a war concerned with the invasion and acquisition of more land, but was also a race war. This article explain my own peronal knowledge of the event, which I believe is the sum total of the knowledge of many young people today. This article takes into account that many people in the world do not go to university, and that most that do go do not major in history, or even take history as a subject. Channels like Discovery and the History channel do sometimes feature programs about it, and there have been some movies released lately which explores the subject too, but these are not always showing.
If anyone had asked me what I knew about World War Two I would have said Hitler; invasion of Poland; mass murder of the Jews; Goebels and at a stretch I might have known of Auschwitz and other camps by name. I did see the movie Schinder's list but did not really comprehend it because I did not understand enough about the war.
So how did I begin to understand about the war? Well for me it was strange because I was interested in learning more about the Vatican and then I learned that two Popes were Popes during the war and this sparked my interest and I read massive books about the subject and then I realised that I wanted to know more about this war and I read Schindler's Ark. And so after reading about what really happened in a lot of detail, I began to feel a lot of emotion, and comprehend some of the events, but it took a lot of learning on my part before I got to that point.
I'm not saying we should go into gory details or be insensitive, just that people should know what really, because what happened to those people was very cruel. If people want the world to change they need to know the truth. They need to find out what really happened.
If you still are not convinced I will tell you that I know a bunch of people who think Hitler was correct and have similar notions to him and sing songs about him in support. The same people are ordinary kids by anyone's standard. I think the reason that they act like that is because they are ignorant. They cannot be sickened by the war because they still don't know anything about it. The only books they have read are books that glorify Hitler and are filled with hate speech about the Jews. So I think that everybody is personally resposible for educating their kids about the war, because if you don't, someone else might

Kari , One thing that you are dead right is people and mostly youth now a days are ignorant about history. They see the glorification of people and events but not the cause and suffering behind it. It is important that everyone learn history specially WWII history in right context . The war has changed world in every dimension and it bought horrors may it be mass murder of Jews or mass murder of Japanese by Atom bombs. Probably it was the worst of human kind politically , technologically that came out in this war and human kind is still scared of it. If we don't learn from it probably we will repeat it again .... and this time it will be much worse

Thank you for expressing yourself so well in this Hub. I enjoyed reading your words. The only thing is, you mention WWII as being a race war but easily most of those killed were Caucasians. I have never heard that said before. If you want to know about those terrible events in detail, I recommend you rent "The World At War." It was produced in 1973, and Laurence Olivier narrates (5 stars right there). It is 30 hours long on 11 DVD discs but if you watch the first, you will not stop until you finish I'll bet. It is riveting.
