Keep in mind that now you will have to figure out how to drive traffic to that site in addition to your primary internet business. It may be more profitable to focus on generating traffic and conversions first and then once that is up and running you can set up your other monetizing websites.

Another consideration is the cost of building more websites. Depending on whether you hire the services of a competant webmaster or use an automated ' do-it-yourself' point and click template website builder, the cost can vary widely. The vast majority of affiliates in network marketing and mlm cannot afford the services of a webmaster. Even most small business owners looking to gain online presence would shutter at the prospect of hiring a professional webmaster. This is not to mention the fact that most affiliates in network marketing, mlm or small business don't posess the expertise or the time to master the technology involved if they were to be inclined to do it for themselves.

You will find that some programs will not accept you unless you have your own domain name.

If you intend to make money at your site you should give serious consideration to registering your own domain name.

How You Get Paid

Consider, before joining any affiliate program, how you will be paid. There are generally three different pay structures and you need to know the ramifications to your own situation before joining.

Pay Per Impression (cpm)

This simply means that you are compensated each time an advertiser's banner is shown on your website. Pay is usually calcualted as a certain $ amount per thousand (cpm). CPM means cost per thousand, M being the Roman Numeral for 'thousand'. A good round number to illustrate price per thousand impressions is $5. This may be seem to be an insignificant amount but it can be great if your site attracts a lot of visitors.

Pay Per Click (ppc)

Instead of being paid for impressions you can get paid when and only when someone actually clicks on a banner at your website. Your conversion rate will depend on how attractive the banner is and can be more profitable than cpm generally. The conversion rate for this pay method is usually higher than the pay per sale method. A website that enjoys high traffic will probably get a better click through rate than a lower traffic website. Sometimes you can make up for this with a highly relevant banner to your target audience.

Pay Per Sale

While the pay structure is higher for this method it has the lowest conversion rates. Your visitor not only has to click on the banner ad, they must also purchase or do something else like sign up for something. Here again, you must thoughtfully select your advertisers to fit your target audience to make this method work optimally.

You should expect to be issued your compensation as your account accrues a minimum amount depending on individual programs. For example, Site A may not issue funds until your account with them reaches $25.00.
