Here's my problem....
I was raised to be a Christian. My parents, thank God, were not overzealous about churchgoing. I was raised to believe that if a person tried their best, and didn't judge others, they were following the word of Christ. It was as simple as that. So why, in the name of all that is holy, have I been inundated with all these rules since then?
I have family members that belong to the Pentecostal Church. Everything you may have heard of the Pentecostal Church is nothing compared to what I have to hear whenever I am around them.
It seems their main goal is to save us sinners who do not attend their church. "When can I see you in church?" with a smirk is all I hear. "I haven't seen you in church." "Can I expect you in church, this Sunday?"
This confuses me. I look at church as a place of learning. How many times can you hash and re-hash one book before you get the gist of it. Most of my family, who attend this "church" are riddled with guilt. It seems that, if you want to go to heaven, you must be content with the fact that you are a terrible person.
I am not an atheist. I believe in God in my own way, and I am disgusted by right wing conservative churches that try to spoon feed the masses their own agenda. It is hurtful to me and to my idea of God. I don't believe in their idea of God. I hate their idea of God. I would rather be considered an atheist.
The bible is a book that is brilliantly written, in that, it can completely change its stance on a subject and force the reader to try to figure out the true will of God. It also states that man will never know the true will of God.... So what's the point? Is God so insecure that He/She needs to be worshiped by simple minded followers? I refuse to believe that.
I have had so many blessings in my life, and I know that everything that has happened to me has happened for a reason. There are so many schools of thought, I choose to go with my gut. What is my God saying to me? She is saying that as long as I try to do what is right, I will be alright. I don't want any more than that. I want my daughter to be safe and healthy, so I do all I can to make sure she is. I believe that everyone who spouts bible verses, to show they've read the book, are wasting their time on me, and a lot of other folks. All you have to do to show your "goodness" to me is to act appropriately. Be nice. Be courtious. Leave the God stuff to God.
God is in the eye of the beholder.

- GOD CONSCIOUS
For those including myself who believe in a creator or God/God's, what separates the human from other life? You could say the 1.6% DNA that is the missing link between human and the chimp. I believe...

Wonderful (and wonderfully written). I've got Baptists in my family and they are, I'm sure, convinced that I'm going to hell in a handbasket. Like you, I believe in a Good God, a kindly spirit, a friendly Universe (as Einstein called it). My Jesus doesn't make people feel guilty or unhappy or downright miserable. He loves us all.
The God that others buy into is, to me, no more than a devil - and I can't see any sense in worshiping devils.
MIndfield, once again, you have brightened my day. Thanks for your support and insight. Great minds, think alike. ;)
This article should bring forth lots of comments! I believe if there is a God, He created us all, therefore we will all go to heaven. I also believe that even if there isn't a God, we should all do our best to be as good and as kind as possible. I know that there will be many people who don't agree with me at all - my parents would be among those who don't agree. They believe that you must first believe in God in order to go to heaven. (-:
I am a devout Christian and I don't make anyone feel guilty...you can't honestly judge anyone....only God can!
"Leave the God stuff to God" the most wise saying I have heard about religion in years. That may have even made God grin! Thank you. :)
Thank you, Tom. I am glad to have made you grin.
I hate to bring up bible verses, but when Jesus’ apostles tried to interpret what he said, he told them they hadn’t a clue and to stick to fishing. They then tried to interpret what he said and wrote a large portion of the New Testament. Kind of silly if you ask me. I have gone down a long road to find my place with God, Gods, the source. Most of the time with these extreme Christians, I would rather be in the atheist line as well. Well put and in a short space.
I read my Bible every morning for about an hour. I have read the same Scriptures many times and every time I go back over familiar ground my eyes are opened in a deeper way. The Book is designed that way. To be studied , not just read. For this diligent study, we are promised a greater understanding as a reward. And it is true.
BTW—God is He not She! LOL Jesus taught us how to pray: "My Father . . . "
nice hub...... I always like to read other peoples thoughts on god....
Good hub! To me it does not matter if God is a he a she or ?
I think God just wants us to live happy and thrive as humans. That's all.
Good on you, for having your own thoughts and opinions. Who is anyone to knock them? A big thumbs up!!!!!!!! (hugs)
I still think god is as much a she as a he. Look at nature. Sheesh!
That was so well put, personally I think you are lovely but you should already know that !
God is a She? Or a He/She? So you know more about God than Jesus Christ? WOW! You're stepping into some pretty big shoes there!
People believe how they believe. No one is trying to change anyone's opinion. That was not my intention. I am only trying to express my exasperation with being told what to believe by people who claim to know best. My relationship with God has never been in question, not with me.
God is neither he or she! He has traits of both genders in him! He is unisex and uses both genders for his ministry!
People asking if your going to church is not about them filling pews its actually that they care about you and would like to fellowship with you! Church is a place where you can fellowship with God and His people - Where you learn about his teachings and where you get advice and friendships that are not about- what you can do but what who you are! Im from a Pentecostal Church (in fact my father is the pastor) God recognises we all have failings and does not ask us to be anything other that who we are coz he loves us that way! He made you that way! And also There is no condemnation or guilt in Christ! He takes you the way you are and loves you!!
No, God is definately a man. In the immortal words of George Carlin "no woman could @#!$ things up this badly!"
Ed, you deserve a hug for just mentioning George Carlin. You are a man after my own heart.
A well written hub Davinagirl3, I agree with much of it.
How about a group ((((HUG)))
for a very good hub!
Very well written. I was raised in a Seventh Day Adventist home, and for 27 years, put up with the guilt of not going to church when I should, and making decisions that went against God. When my kids spent a week with my parents, the first thing my son asked me on the way home was "are you ready to go to heaven Mommy?" I finally couldn't deal with the constant crisism anymore, and I packed my bags, sent my folks an email that I just couldn't take it anymore, and left. I miss them, but can't bring myself to call them. It's sad, but I don't know what else to do.
You know , I am of the impression that god writes through the work of humans and I am also of the oppinion that he/she has written through you . Well done davinagirl3
sounds like you are searching for answers, which is a good start! I hope you continue to seek God in all things.
I have found it quite interesting to read the comments on this forum. The most striking thing is that we all have an opinion of who God is i.e what we believe Him to be.
But don't we think that God has an opinion of who He is? Surely, if He is God, He does know who He is. If we cannot form an opinion of another human being unless we become friends with them, interact with them and they tell us who they are, how much more with God.
God is not a figment of our imagination, neither is He someone we form an opinion about, but He is real and definitely has His own Person and we need to seek Him out so that He can reveal Himself to us. Note the word "seek". Without seeking Him, you cannot know who He is. Knowing a God exists is not enough, entering a relationship with Him, is what He desires thats why He wants us to go to Heaven, to be in a relationship with Him that is everlasting. It is the promised reward if we truly seek Him.
Seeking is an act of faith. How can you tell that God exists and you have not seen Him, heard Him, touched Him, smelled Him or even tasted Him. Through faith, then we believe in Him and believe in His Son, who is indeed the way to the Father. We believe in His redemptive work and by the shedding of His blood, our sins are washed away. And the Son baptizes us in His Holy Spirit, so that we are born again of the Spirit of God and become the adopted sons and daughters of God. Not children of the flesh, but of the Spirit - denoting that we become obedient to God. For we cease to accomplish good works by our flesh (simply a religious act which is also practiced by other religions) and become sensitive to the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sin (rebellion and disobedience) and produces good works in us (obedience to God).
GLORY BE TO THE GOD OF HEAVEN

Great Hub, davinagirl3, or is it divine-a-girl3? Ha ha ha. If you take a look at my avatar, you'll know which religion I'm into. To me, it makes perfect sense and by no way doesn't go around preaching to people the Four Noble Truths or the Eightfold Path. They feel that they don't need to. Think of it this way, religion is like a door in which no one can make you walk through. Thanks for, as always, your great hub.
