Lady Guinevere is a character that has been scrutinized for many years. She came to light in the Arthur and Camelot legends. She was always put in a bad light, but never once did anyone see her side of the story. She was married in one story and in other's she was already in love with Lancelot. Those didn't matter to anyone because, as the King, Arthur wanted her and was going to have her as his Queen no matter what. I believe she was a Christian and of royal heritage. She had many trials and tribulations as a Queen would have, but was always being a Queen to her subjects. In the time of Camelot there was peace for many years until Christianity happened upon the scene. The battles that were faught were for each side. Arthur's Sister and Merlin where on the side of Magic and Alchemy and shape shifting and all things that Christianity abhore or think is evil. Guinevere was on teh side of Christianity, but was also there on the side of Arthur and his kin. In the great battle where Arthur was killed by his evil son Mordred, he was taken to the Land of Avalon through the mists. It is said that Avalon was sort of like in another dimension on the same place that The Holy Church was located.

Guinevere sat on the fence between Chrisitanity and the Pagan and Magical world. She couldn't get away from it because of what her husband the King was and had done and who was related too, but her father and her family where Christians, but I don't think that was any mind to what the King wanted. He just wanted Guinevere and he was going tohave her at any cost. So he got her and he live was turned upside down. in the end she is said to have gone into the Holy Church in the Nunnery--in the very same ground that Avalon was said to be and that you could only get there by magic and lifting the mists--or veil into that other world.

I chose her as my alia because I know in my heart that Camelot existeded and so did Arthur and she did too an so did alot of the characters in tht legend. I, too, sit on that fence between Pagan and Christianity. I am also a minister, called by my Christ. I ddn't do it right away but was called several times in a few years time. I belive in magic and Jesus at the same time as I have experienced many things that Christianity says that are wrong and evil and Satanic. I have seen and experienced other worlds and dimensions and things that the Bible just doesn't explain. Although my awakening brought Christ to me. ...And so I am a minister.... to the people to tell the truth behind the control mechanisms that the Church puts upon it's subjects. That is sort of like what how Guinevere's life unfolded to her. She was Christian in the beginning as I was and then on the fence like I am. In the book, "The Mists of Avalon" when Guinevere sees the statue of the Mother Mary, is also looks like the High Priestess. They are one in the same. She is still on that fence between the Christan world and the Pagan and magical world........and so am I. The truth we are seeking is within ourselves and if we just ask we will receive those answers to the questions that we seek. If we need something or want something we must ask and it shall be given--yep just like that--Christ said that and he meant it. I don't go trying to convert anyone because like in my experiences and that of the Lady in the Nunnery when she saw the statue and what is was and is we are all the same. Converting is not what my purpose is-----sharing Christ and the God that is within all of us is. I pull from all the different worlds and the Pagan and the Christian and what is in my heart and my soul and that is what I am supposed to be doing.

Here I am--Lady Guinevere sittng on the fence because neither world is totally correct but are part of each other as is the Magical world and the Christian world. They both share the same things only they don't want to believe it. No matter what one believes about that--it is still true.

Thanks for the comment and I am glad that I have met another who thinks the same! I hope this brings out more people like us.
I am ever tickled that the Catholic church considers itself "christian" (or non-pagan) when so many of its rituals were copied from the Pagans, and Mary is revered as its "high priestess".
Thank you for an enlightening hub that confirms that drawing from both sides of the fence is not the same as fence-sitting to remain uncommitted to either.
And desert blondie, your comment was most insightful!
Hello Lady Guinevere, I thought you might be interested in the following links about a British guy who claims to be the re-incarnation of King Arthur.

Great hub, and keep on believing in yourself!
CJ, When I read your comment chills went all over my body. It only does that when I have made some sort of connection to whatever it is--because I haven't figured it out just yet. Did I say in my hub that I really believe that I am decendant of Lady Guinevere somehow and in some way. I don't think her and the King had any children, but that we don't truly know because the only things that are idealized is her affair and not the life with King Arthur itself.
Jama, I agree with you too. It's just loke the story of Arthur--they take what they want the them claim everyone else is wrong but they are clean. Stealing is stealing--period!
I did sort of wonder about this, but it is a lovely name, and it seems to suit you well :)
A very interesting and explanatory hub, my friend. I enjoyed reading it. Maybe we were around England's West Country in the same era, because I have a great love for the Arthurian legend and for the sheer energies that lie there. I'm so sure that I've been there in a previous life.
CJ... I know of the guy you mentioned. He's a fruit cake! lol. He really does believe he's Arthur returned, as he tells all the media about it, and walks around as though it's his land... especially Stonehenge and the surrounding areas.
Lady Guinevere, I can fully understand how you can sit on the fence as regards Christianity and Paganism, and I wouldn't argue a thing against your beliefs, for I have always said that all modern, major religions stemmed from the ancients. None of them is not completely right, and none of them is wrong. What you believe and feel is right for you, is what is. I will never understand all the arguing about religion and beliefs, as long as I live, and I make a point of visiting the worshipping places of several different religions. From there, I can see that they're all the same... it's just the names of the deities that differ.
Fascinating hub... thank you for inviting me to read it.
Darkwing,
This all ties in together with my book. I have the Intro, Chapters 1 and 2 and I just published chapter 3 this morning! I know it is a bit slow and I would like to get it all out right away so everyone can see the whole thing, but it doesn't happen that way in real life. Anyway my latest on that I published is here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Whispers-From-OZ-part-2
All of them are named Whispers from OZ. Enjoy!
Good writing. One thing you may want to do is separate it into shorter paragraphs to make it easier to read.
I am in chat also if you want to join me for a bit.
SirDent,
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment. I will do my best to rectify that.
Great Hub of course, I expected no less. Really looking forward to your next ones, and I am going to try and get that "Mists of Avalon" book out from our local library.
If you check out "Bardofely" on Hubpages, he is a personal friend of the guy who reckons he is the reincarnation of King Arthur. I have never met the new King Arthur, so can't say whether he is a "fruitcake" or not, but know bardofely is convinced by him. You can find bardofely by looking at the list of people I am a fan of and he is the one with the green beard LOL.
Darkwing, I like your comment that the deities all are the same with different names. Funnily enough, of all people David Icke said much the same thing, and pointed out that the life stories of most religious icons are all exactly the same with the only difference being the names. A lot of the other stuff he said sounds really whacky, but this bit makes sense and is researchable.

Very thoughtful and interesting summary of Lady Guinevere's place in the King Arthur legend. I was completely entranced by the book "Mists of Avalon" and know I've got kindred spirits in those like you who believe "neither world is totally correct." I think this as well because it would be impossible for 'mere mortals' to write down an explanation of all of the experiences of this world...we are too limited to be truly wholly encompassing in our mental abilities. Nice hub!
