Why King David is Called A Man After God's Heart

" The Lord forbid that I should do such thing to my master, the Lord's anointed, or lift my hands against him, for he is the anointed of the Lord. "

I Samuel 24:5

An intense jealousy for David had filled Saul's heart since David's victory over Goliath. From then on, he sought means to kill David. Saul had been obsessed with power. He did not want to give up his seat as king. Aware that David was the Lord's choice to be the next king of Israel , Saul sought means that David be killed . King Saul considered David as the major threat to his throne. He wanted to cling on to power.

Darkness conquered Saul's heart , it is filled with obsession for power , jealousy, hatred, selfcenteredness, selfish ambitions, and all sorts of evil desires. He tirelessly sought means for David's destruction, But Saul always failed in his attempts of killing David, for the Lord is with David, the man after God's heart.

David became aware of Saul's desire to kill him. There were many times when Saul's life was given into David's hands but David never touched him because in David's eyes he was the Lord's anointed. David indeed has a very beautiful heart , indeed he has very great reverence for God. He cannot touch the Lord's anointed. Saul had done David so much evil , but David continued to honor him. He did not seek revenge or did not take advantage of the circumstances. He honored Saul because he honored God. Above all.

That's why I believe he is called " A man after God's heart

Very good hub Cristina327. I agree with you, God conquered David's heart with love and favor, and David was obliged to extend that love and favor in spite of the circumstances.

This was a very good insight and it really should touch peoples heart and make them think when people are treating us bad, we just need to be the loving Christians that God intended us to be and go on and love them no matter what. I think the way Christ handled his enemys is a perfect example for all Christians to follow. I was very touched by what you said.

Very well put and Spirit led observations. David learned about God as a child and always reverenced Him. The question for me to ask now is; Am I a man after God's own heart?

Thanks Sirdent for a gracious comment. Yes I believe all of us must strive to be a man or woman after God's own heart.

Thanks for taking time to put your thoughts in words.

I am not sure pinning everything down to ONE point is a good idea. If we say that David was a man after God's heart because he honored God, then we are leaving out so many other aspects of David's life. He walked in forgiveness, just like God. He desired justice, just like our God. He longed for the presence of God in worship, he honored the sacrifices, he...

Then again, if you want to explore ALL these things, you're going to be exploring all the way until the Lord comes back. And that's actually quite a good thing!

Cristina,

Very good.  Oh that we all would make it our goal in life to be one after God's heart.

Thank you. ~ eddie

It really amazes me how David protected Saul till the end even when he didn't deserve it. David has such ethics.

David was righteous; he was very fair in what he did.
