Why Lie

What good do lies do for us?

Have you ever wondered why we lie and why others lie to us?

Do we tell lies to spare someones feelings? Or perhaps we lie because we are afraid of what someones reaction will be if we tell them the truth.

Perhaps we lie because we were taught to lie from those around us as we grew up. What ever the reason for lies we tell, are we doing justice to ourselves?

I think not, if we lie to keep from hurting someones feelings, we know that they will at some time find out what the truth is, and then hold this against us, (their friend), for lying to them at the start. And we may have grew that original lie into several others, for one lie always leads to another.

If we lie because we are afraid of the reaction we will get, imagine what that reaction will be like when they finally get the truth, and how many other lies we may of told to support the first one, can only make this a Hugh problem to deal with when it does finally come out.

The next one is a little harder to see the reasons for and understand. If we were taught to lie by those who were around us as we grew up, it may be many years before we realize that lying is wrong to begin with. Usually by the time this is realized we no longer have any friends and this is what usually triggers us to stop and think about lies. Hopefully they are not so far along in life that they can not or will not change their life for the better.

Ok, Next, why do others lie to us, they know that we will get the truth eventually, and that it will cause problems between us. It can only be for so many reasons that someone will lie, and none of those reasons really make sense when you stop and think it through.

I have for many years tried not to lie, but guess what! I still catch myself lying from time to time, most often to keep from hurting their feelings. This is stupid I know because I know that they will get the truth in time. And that then, I will have even more do deal with than if I had been honest to begin with. It is disappointing to me that no matter how hard I try to stay on guard against lying, I still do from time to time. I hate that when the time comes for me to answer for all I have done in life that ongoing lying will be one of the ones I will have to answer for. May God forgive me when that time comes.

Lies can and are the downfall of many otherwise great people. People who have so much to offer but will let their lies stop them from ever achieving their greatness. They would rather go on lying than try to stop and become who they were truly meant to be.

I have realized over time that no matter how hard I try I will most likely continue to tell lies from time to time. I also realize that most other people will also. This has at least made forgiving someone who lies to me a lot easier. I no longer what to argue over a lie told to me by anyone, I know they had their reasons, (even if those reasons are stupid),and what will it gain me if I hold it against them for something that can not be changed anyway.

For me it has become much easier to forget it, let it go, and to forgive.
