Everyone sets new years resolutions at some point in their lives. For me New Years rsolutions happen annualy. The excitement of the changes possible in the new year are always something that pushes me to make great change. The problem with many peoples new years resolutions though is that they often do not quite workout and they fail and are more than disappointed, missing one of these new years resolutions can devestate you and force you to question whether you can change at all.
There are a few tools that you can use, methods to set and reset new years resolutions so that they will be successful this year and make it so that you will not fail as easily. Let's look at the things that force our resolutions now to have a fighting chance.
An unimportant new years resolution
Sometimes we will set new years resolutions that to us at the time seem like they are really great, stopping smoking, losing weight, you know the classics. You will set the new years resolution and the next day you will wonder why you are doing it but after all the fanfare of the night before you will wonder if there was any reason why you even started. You will fail with an unimportant new years resolution.
No support structure
Most new years resolutions need somone or a group of people to support them. If you are an island trying to make change you will have trouble. you need the help of others that have gone before you OR people that know you well. The support structure of those that have gone before you is a help in knowing what kinds of obstacles you will hit beforehand and then how to break through those obstacles.
People that know you can help in that they will not be working as sabateours to your success, they will know when you are weak and can help you work though those roadblocks in your new years resolution.
No intermediate new years resolutions to the big one
Sometimes we need a few steps before we can succeed. I know that years past as I started an internet business I never reall knew what I had to accomplish, I just knew that IO wanted financial freedom, a big step to say the least, so I never though about business planning and small steps in income so that I oculd grow a business instead of taking big steps to launch big sites without testing and learning smaler strategies instead.
Some people will decide to lose 30 pounds and then after one week are down 5 pounds and down 6 pounds after the second week and neither of these are 30 pounds so they will feel humiliated and stop trying.
As much as every dream has a journey to get there it is also important to remember tha each of your new years resolutions will have stagesw and to move through those stages will man that the new years resolution will eventuallty accomplished.
Not SMART new years resolutions
This is a big one to me. The difference between a real new years resolution and a dram is a few things.
A SMART new years resolution if you have not heard of this term before stands for the following. S stands for Specific, M stands for measureable, A stands for Attainable, R stands for Realistic, T stands for time based.
So if you hold all of your golas to thisese standards you will have a much better chance of success.
Now you can have the new years resolution of:
Lose Weight
Turned into:
Lose 20 pounds of fat by February 28th based on my current weight of 200 pounds being at least 20 pounds more than it should be.
Of course the idea of a new years resolution is that you will not only have the new years resolution but the plan in place to attain that new years resolution so in the above example you would want to have a diet and exercise paln worked out with all of your favorite foods in or out. Time to workout in your schedule, and alternatives to your common weight gain support, you know things like going out to restuarants or bars or pubs often.
Also you will have those itnermediate new years resolutions of when you want to be down 5 pounds 10 pounds and 15 pounds. You also should have some kind of victory thing planned out ofr each of those new years resolutions. There is so much more to new years resolution setting if you want to really dive into it. But these are the basics that will force your new years resolution to become a reality.
Now I hope that you understand a few of those problems in the past that have led to your New Years Resolutions being unattainable. Try hard to make sure that this year is different.
