During the summer months as the heat begins to rise, families everywhere begin to think of cooling their homes.

There are several methods people use to achieve a comfortable environment within their homes.

The most common appliance people use to cool their homes is portable air conditioners.

Portable air conditioners will vary in price depending on the amount of square footage you need to cool down. For the average air conditioner, it will generally cool around 400 sq feet. They can range anywhere from 150 sq feet to 400 sq feet.

There are a few differing factors when choosing a portable air conditioners. The first being BTU's which basically describes the amount of heat that specific machine can take out of the room at one time. Another factor is size, how big is the size of the room compared to the size of the air conditioner you want to buy. Be sure to also compare prices in relation to the BTU's for you best value.

Using this style of air conditioner is also a good idea due to the fact it truly is portable. They can come on wheels or a standing base. You can tuck them away in a corner as long as they are not touching the wall or place them in front of a window to allow the vents to be placed outside (for those with hoses).

Some air conditioners also have a dehumidifier function which will take any moist air out of the room, thereby making the room feel cooler and less oppressive.

Whatever style or variation you choose, be sure to shops around and get the best price while staying with in your budget. Remember to think for next year if you have many rooms but are only able to cool a few of them this year. End of the year sales will help you out for cost effectiveness for next year.

I just moved to Cairo, Egypt from Canada. Luckily we have our main rooms air conditioned but the 2nd bedroom is not. I may well look into picking up a 2nd air conditioner of the portable kind for that room.

Thanks for the hub.
