Often, you will find that your basement has flooded or turned damp, and this may create a lot of problems that will be hard to take care of. At these times, you would find yourself wishing that you had paid a lot of attention while installing a suitable system of basement tanking.

Cellar tanking is a concept that is very easy to understand. Here, a waterproof coating is applied on the walls and the floor of a cellar basement. This coating is also very good in keeping the beads of humidity out of any basement. This is how dampness, if any, is avoided. The back mold will not grow anymore, and you would not have to worry about suffering from health problems.

  • You can use the system of tanking while building your house, where you can seal the basement so that water will not be able to enter. Once your basement has been built, you have to think of ways to maintain and enhance the system of tanking. Try to find ways of managing excessive amount of water, especially during the rainy times. You can built drains, and sloping floors for this purpose.
  • To avoid cases of leakage, you need to drain water away from the indoor basement, and you also have to cover up the holes and cracks in the walls. You can fill up these cracks and depressions and fissures with the help of tanking mechanisms and even silicone caulk.
  • When you are assembling the parts for building the interior waterproofing system in your basement, you have to use drainage techniques along with sealants. You can place cavity drainage in the floor linings and walls to channel the water away. If you want a lot more protection, you can go for the exterior foundation drain. This method is good since it actually uses gravity to suck the water away, and you would not need electricity or pumps to do that job.
