What's a CSV File?

Anyone who's interested in affiliate marketing will know that many merchants list their products in a .csv file. This file can be opened in Microsoft Excel (and similar programs) and lists the merchants products, codes, image links, prices, etc. It's basically got all the information you need to market your affiliate products.

What is Import CSV?

Import CSV is a Wordpress plugin that quickly and easily imports records from your .csv file to your Wordpress site. It imports the following information: post title, post contents, tags, timestamp, category & custom fields.

All you have to do is set up the .csv file to use the correct import fields and away you go, hundreds of merchant products are ready to upload.

Import CSV can save you hours of time because the .csv usually has titles, tags and categories, as well as product descriptions. You just need to make sure the file is set correctly before importing.

Import CSV can also put a future timestamp on yor posts so you can set up work days, weeks and even months in advance.

If you have a Wordpress blog you know how time consuming it can be - those posts don't write themselves! Unless you have Import CSV. Then you have hundred of posts at your finger tips, ready for posting any time you want

How to use Import CSV

There are two ways to use Import CSV:

1. If you just want to fill up a blog with product information you can import the information as your merchant gives it to you - this gives you lots of content very quickly.

2. We all know that original content is important if you want to entertain your readers, so rather than just copying what the merchant gives you, add some thoughts of your own. Review the products your selling and bring your personality to you site. You can do all this with the .csv and import the details quickly and easily to your Wordpress blog.

Do I need to be an Excel Expert?

Not at all! Basic knowledge of Excel is all you need to re-order the appropriate fields. There's a video below which shows you how to use the 'concatenate' function within excel, which is really handy for adding multiple details to one field.

Just one function of Import CSV

Where Can I Get It?

Good decision!

Import CSV is a paid for plugin and you can get it here.

I'm in the process of writing a hub on 'How to get the best from Import CSV' that I'll post to Hubpages pretty soon - watch this space!

Wow, I never thought anyone would be able to make csv files interesting enough to make a hub about, but you did a pretty good job! Well done :-)

Try http://www.digitalquill.co.uk/datafeedplugin gives you more options, you can create a template for your posts, update posts based on unique key, create categories and tags and will work with as many fields as you want so no messing about with excel and modifying the csv file

Matt, your site is listed as a malware site on Google and I did catch a trojan download when I went there.

I hope I didn't catch a virus or trojan. I beginning not to trust too many uk sites. I'm using it now but having problems using open office or word 97 to split the files so the plugin can use it. I have to open in open office and then post about 1,500 to notepad and save it for the plugin to take it or use a file splitter. I can't get an answer as to why the plugin isn't taking the larger datafeeds. Does anyone know. I've emailed them so many times I guess they are just ignoring me now. Maybe my server times out. I don't know. I know I've posted about 25,000 feeds or more separately and I only have about 5,000 posts to show for it. Can anyone give any advice?

Just to be fair I thought I'd better do an update. The reason my feeds are limited may be due to using a shared server instead of dedicated. I'm still not quite sure but I did get more of the feeds to post when I used sku, upc or productid in the unique field in case anyone else is having problems. The plugin owner did offer some solutions and was very responsive of late to other suggestions for the plugin.

Also as far as I know my antivirus software has not picked up any viruses, etc.
