Condoms are not 100% safe, but very preventative from spreading disease. Wearing 2 condoms will make it uncomfortable for the man and doesn't guarantee 100% safety. the main reason that condoms fail is because they are used incorrectly – they are torn during opening, oil–based lubricants are used, or they are put on incorrectly, for example.

In general, condoms provide an effective barrier against HIV and other STIs, and given that so many people practice penetrative sex as part of their sex lives, it is important that they are used properly. They are still the most effective barrier to HIV transmission during sexual intercourse.

Condom reluctance

You may also have negative feelings about condoms. They can be uncomfortable, they can reduce the sensation during sex, and can often interrupt your fun when you have to find a condom, open the packet, find the lubricant and put it on. Nobody is saying that condoms are perfect, or that sex will be just as good if you use them. But, frankly, they are the best thing we have now to cut down on HIV transmission during sex.

(Although I personally have my own reservations of condom usage and I’d question myself if I would wager my life on its safety) This lead into a controversy over the safety of the condoms itself if a woman is HIV positive since the seminal fluid would reach beyond the condom and infect the male. Good point but I don’t know that and I wonder if even doctors know that. Then again according to statistics it is the males who were already HIV positive before any women showed signs of the dreaded HIV. But this is neither here nor there now that both sides of the genders are infected.

Just the same I would think that women who are not infected by the virus would insist their partner would wear a condom if they have no knowledge of who his partners were before she came along. At least it will give them an 80% security of not getting infected by any STD including HIV.

The only way to bring this deadly disease under control is to abstain completely or remove all those infected onto an island such as they did with leopardsy. But both of these ideas are futile because that would be considered as inhumane treatment, bias, call it what you will you’d have people carrying torches and pitchforks assembling in the streets and cry out the injustice of it all. Instead we go visit the hospitals and the dying and hold their hand for having allowed a spreading epidemic turn into a pandemic for the sake of equal rights and humanity.

Whenever there is an outbreak – recently SARS –a quarantine was set up immediately to quickly bring this under control. But with HIV no quarantine was ever mentioned and now we have a mushroomed pandemic.

People who have experienced sex will not abstain from sex. As simple as that. Because the drive is too strong. In that case there is only one option left and that is the condom and take your chances. Better than nothing is the attitude at this point from the government even if it means you’ll never be sure and the day after the night before may lead you to many worried years ahead.

I may sound without empathy. Actually the ones I cry for are the children. The children and the teens who are molested by family members or friends of the family. The babies in Africa who are being murdered or life long mutilated by rape because a witchdoctor has told them they will be cured of aids if they sleep with a virgin. (seen on a documentary on Oprah). The women in India who are being hospitalized with aids and abandoned by their husbands so they can take new wives and infect them. The women who are being burnt and left to die in hospitals so their husbands can get new wives and infect them with aids. Do any of these children or women have choices?

If you are reading this then you can say you are living in one of those countries where you are lucky. You have a choice and the choices are yours to live or to die. HIV is not something that will come and make you sick for a while and then your life continues. It will kill you. Period.
