Why You Need An HD Receiver
66What exactly is an HD receiver? HD is more typically known as HDTV, or High Definition Television. There are different way to acquire an HD receiver. Today, they may come built into a high definition television set, or you may rent a receiver from your cable or satellite provider for a nominal fee each month.
An HD receiver is what decodes the digital high definition signal coming from the TV station that allows you to watch the show in high definition. High definition has a higher contrast ratio, is crisper and tends to have better sound quality than standard definition TV. This is because the TV is filmed at a higher ratio, meaning that there is more information in the image, giving it more definition and better picture quality.
Not All TV's Have A Built-In HD Receiver
Not all TV's today come with an HD receiver built in, but most plasma and LCD screens today are at least HD ready, which means that while, the TV cannot decode the signal directly, it can be hooked up to a decoded HD source (like a cable box or satellite box) allowing you to view the HD programming. The TV's that have a built in HD receiver can be directly hooked up to an HD antenna to get the programming directly, as the TV itself can decode the signal.
The U.S. Has Switched - So Get Your HD Receiver Online
Most people chose to receive their HD programming through a cable or satellite company. DVR's such as TiVo may also have a built in HD receiver allowing the use to get HD programming in that form as well.
Today there is a wide variety of HD programming available to those that have an HD receiver. Many channels on TV today, also simulcast in HD meaning that you can receive both the standard definition station and the HD station. Some people, even if they are the owners of an HD TV chose not to watch HD programming because the programs might cost extra from their service provider. Some network stations such as ABC, NBC or CBS do over-the-air HD programming which you can watch if you have an HD receiver, either built into your TV or hooked up to your antenna.
Because of the mandatory switch to DTV or Digital Television, some networks and cable companies have expanded their HD lineup's so that customers now receive more HD programming. Make sure, if you would like to enjoy HD programming that you have an HD receiver.
