Cheap Treadmills - Why You Should Look At Them
66So summer has started and you are thinking about getting in shape. Now the question is, what exercise routine should you try? Which one is the best? Both running and walking are good. Both of them burn lots of calories, which in turn speeds up your metabolism which then causes you to lose weight. But what about those days where you are too busy to get in your fancy workout clothes (you do have to impress the neighbors you know!) and you wish you could workout from home?
Another alternative would be going to the gym. However, it seems that once you get all ready for the gym and actually arrive you are out of the exercising mood anyway. After this happens a few times you get so fed up with the whole thing that you quit the gym and cancel that expensive membership. Now what do you do? Well, you could decide to give up working out altogether and then slowly become one with the couch after extended sessions of watching T.V. You could also try doing aerobics at home, but that takes the discipline of a drill sergeant and it can get pretty dull without a workout buddy. However, do you really want to depend on someone else for your success? I didn’t think so.
In this article we are going to explore some tips buying a treadmill and why going for cheap treadmills is a good option.
Cheap Treadmills
Now before we look at tips on buying a treadmill it is important to note something; buying a cheap treadmill is fine. In most cases you are going to get the same exact workout. Sure you won't have all the fancy features, but the truth is only a very small percentage of people even use all those features. You don't have to feel bad about getting treadmills for cheap...in fact you should feel good about being a frugal consumer in this tough economy.
Tip #1: Define the Workout Area
You should get a treadmill that will fit well in the space that you put it in. You don’t want it to take too much room or else you will subconsciously start to resent it. Often times a treadmill will look small at the store and then once it comes come you realize how big it really is. Make sure you get the measurements before you bring it home.
Tip #2: Treadmill Motor
The motor is one of the most critical elements of any treadmill. You need to find a motor that has a continuous duty power rating. Don’t be fool by other ratings like “peak duty” and “treadmill duty” because they are worthless. By opting for a continuous duty motor you will get better performance and a longer life.
Treadmill motor HP can range anywhere from 1.5 to 3.0. You should really only look at treadmills that have at least have 2.0 HP. If you plan on using your treadmill a lot then you may want to go with a 2.5 HP motor. You can also choose between an AC and a DC motor. Most home treadmills use a DC motor since they use less power and are quieter. You should look for a DC motor that has a one-year warranty. Lots of people watch T.V. or listen to music during their workout so motor notice actually is something important to consider.
For a home treadmill, look for a DC motor with a minimum 1 year warranty for a quieter workout. A lot of people watch TV or listen to music while working out so motor noise is a very important consideration.
Tip #3: Treadmill Belt
The treadmill belt is another very important component. You need to make sure that the belt has a two ply surface and that it has a minimum width of 17 inches. If you plan to do a lot of running then you should get a surface length of 60 inches so that you can make longer strides. If you plan to walk more of the time then a surface length of 48 inches should suffice.

Tip #4: Low Impact Deck
One of the major
flaws of a treadmill is that it can be hard on your joints. The solution to
this problem is a shock absorption system. However, you want to make sure that
the deck does not feel too soft. You should either read reviews or try the
treadmill out yourself to see if the deck is soft enough but not too soft. You can find cheap treadmills for sale that will meet your needs.
Tip #5: Incline
Most treadmills will have an automatic feature that will increase or decrease the incline at the push of a button. If you opt for this feature then you should make sure that the range can go from 0% to at least 10%, more if possible. Keep in mind that if you go with a cheap manual treadmill then this option will not be available to you.
Now that you know what to look for, get out there and lose some weight!
