Why a Squidoo Lover Needs a Hubpages Account

Let's get this started

Short and Sweet: I LOVE Squidoo. I find it to be a great platform, however I wanted to give Hubpages a fair chance.

At first I'll admit Hubpages comes out to be too simple for my taste, but then after I thought about it I realized where I and other Squidoo users could benefit more from Hubpages than Squidoo

Perspective: the reluctant learner

I always tell people "Squidoo is like a prettier and more personal Wikipedia". However I rarely tell them "If you want it to be pretty, you'll eventually need to learn basic HTML and CSS".

For someone who is too impatient to learn these, Squidooing can prove difficult. Sure there are now modules that make up for it such as the Link list, Text list, Flickr, and Polaroid modules, but many newbies don't even know those exist.

For those people hubpages has the simplicity for only the things they need, it is a great way to start writing. As they grow as writers they'll probably eventually want more artistic freedom and decide to learn html and move back to Squidoo, but until then Hubpages is the perfect place.

Perspective: The Affiliate-Loving Squidooer

See there's a common knowledge about Squidoo:

Squidoo royalties are only bonuses, the main money is from your own affiliate sales.

Most Squidoo citizens are part of Clickbank, PepperJam, and other affiliate networks because that's how they make money on Squidoo. Those people probably wouldn't like Hubpages much because they usually like to use html to make their affiliates look as good as possible and , let's face it, without css you can't really do that.

However I've seen some of those people sometimes go "I have this idea for a lens but I'm not sure how to monetize it". After all, there aren't always products on the stuff you care about. When that happens they either don't do the lens, or they do it but rely solely on Lensrank royalties. However if the lens isn't in the first tier, it's usually not worth it.

So, I would say to those Affiliate loving rich squidooers, if you have a lens idea and you're not sure how to monetize it, it's better to make it into a hub. That way instead of relying on the community's adsense pool, you get your own and you might even add some Kontera into it. After all what's better? Having a 3d tier lens earn 7 cents a month, or letting it have its own adsense and potentially earning far more?

So what exactly would be better as a hub than a lens?

Ideas that can't really be monetized.

Example: a TV show that did so badly it didn't even have a DVD release. You can't really monetize it since it did poorly, has little to no swag to sell, and probably doesn't have any special actors you can focus on. At least as a Hub every flamer, or secret lover, of the show will potentially earn you a decent Adsense revenue.

(Ok, it's not a great example but you get my point)

Another Example: This very hub! Could you imagine trying to monetize this hub? You really can't, so adsense (and Kontera if I ever get approved) are really the only options, and I wouldn't want to have to rely on lensrank to earn a decent amount.

I strongly disagree with you that the only ideas that make good hubs are things that can't be monetized.

I didn't say they were the only ideas that make god hubs, I said they were from the perspective of those who already make a lot on Squidoo. To those people , since they already know how to make money on Squidoo, any monetizable idea would be put on Squidoo - which means that , to those people, getting a hubpages account would be good for their non-monetizable ideas.

ps. For some unknown reason my hub got published in a different order than i wrote it in, if it had kept the order i made it in, it would have been obvious that the 'so what exactly would be better as a hub than a lens' section was only meant for the squidoo-rich people. *goes to fix the order*

I've been using Squidoo for a while, but just published my first hub. Thanks for the comparison!
