Fat people are abused because the general public view them as being different from the norm. Any kind of deviation for the norm, places a person in a position of abuse such as ridicule and name calling. The status quo in this country counts for very much especially with weight loss advertising and products that seem to be the national anthem. This over barrage of people in America thinking that they have to lose weight to look like the rest of the country which by the way is overweight. puts fat people in a position to be plucked out of the norm.

There is not justification that is outright bias because of how a person looks and has no bearing on their personality. It is similar to racial discrimination, gender discrimination and sexual discrimination. The President passed a bill that sought to reduce the number of hate crimes in America. Although the abuse of fat people is not at the level of other sorts of abuse in the country, being called an insulting name because of  size is not terms of endearment.

Fat people are abused because of the different way they are depicted in society. Fat people are abused mostly verbally and by disapproving stares than outright acts of violence that have been experienced like some people in the gay community. Nevertheless, the abuse continues to be spoken in jokes or disapproving stares because of a person's weight.

There is an article that is online presently about women being gorgeous at any size. The article may toot that to get readership but most of these women are probably not satisfied with their weight if they are fat. From preschool, elementary, middle, and high school, these fat people have had to suck it up when called abusive names. Most of these people have reciprocated from the abusive name calling by developing a sense of humor. No one dare call Santa Claus though a fictional character fat abusively because of his jolly smile and the joyous time of year that he is thought of. But in real life, kids around the country as well as adults are abused because of being fat.  Some of have developed a sense of humor as their army against the wave of ridicule that can be received from going out in public

.  Most morbidly obese people stay in their residences and have other to care for them because of limited mobility.  People in this state are not concerned about the abuse from others as they are having to deal with sustaining and should receive medical attention immediately.

The cycle begins young and kids not knowing how to deal with the abusive name calling escapes to more food and the cycle begins and continues throughout their adult years. Being different from the "norm" is a cause of the abusive name calling. Skinny kids get teased also, but not to the magnitude of the so called fat kid. Most of these kids are secure in who they are while others as on a recent Oprah show on obesity blamed their parents. Oprah had the so called  half ton teenager on who could not leave his bed and his mother continued to be an enabler to his overweight condition. There was no talk about abuse as the physical condition was paramount over what others had to say abusively or otherwise.

Abusing fat people will only stop when Americans start looking a the character and the contribution that can be received from everyone regardless of their size.  When a SAT college test is given, there is not a form to be completed that ask about a person's weight.  Weight should not matter to others but should matter to the overweight person for personal health reasons.

A quiet stare of disapproval can be as hurtful as actually being called fat or being on the tail end of a fat joke. To combat the abuse and to improve their health, the overweight person should seek medical help to be put on a weight loss  program. Getting a physicians help with weight loss is not to stop the abuse because you can not control what people say and do. Getting a physician's help will get on the road to a healthy weight for the overweight person's well care and well being.
