A great employee has to take pride of what he or she does, that goes along with honesty, integrity with good work ethics. One study shows that 20% to 25% of employees admit that they are late to work at least once a week or more. Let's look into the reasons why people are late to work on a daily basis or call in sick unnecessary.

From what I learned, people who are late to work are the ones that are always tardy for other appointments or engagements as well. It becomes such a habit in their lives that they seem to ignore it unconsciously. There is no one size fits all answer to this. I want to review this objectively. People who are late to work can have many reasons. This sounds like excuses. For example, they are unhappy with their job, lack of self-discipline, inability to prioritize, due to emotionally issue such as depression. There might be situations which employees are taking care of their elderly parents, or ill spouses or children who need long term care but cannot afford to have one. You never know. People like to rationalize with their own reasons of why they are late. Some even like the adrenaline rush in a sense of meeting the deadline.

Being late is not just about the individual. Employees who are chronically late can result to termination. It can affect your career such as promotions. It can have a negative effect on your peers. The most important thing is, it can impact the employer in a tremendous way. How are we going to improve the tardiness? Well, by starting to recognize the problem. Accept that as an issue in you life. Have desire to change or improve.
