66Dollar Store 'savings'
Dollar Stores are just one of the more recent trends of ways to get Americans to spend more when they think they are saving money.
To start with most dollar stores are not the kind where every item in their store is a dollar. Most use the label to lure people in and then actually charge rounded dollar amounts for their products.
A true everything is a dollar type of dollar store gets their merchandise cheaply a couple of ways. First they buy in very large quanities. They get great deals for buying very large amounts. Next they buy almost all 'off' brand products. These items are usually made extremely cheaply and the stores are making good margin on them.
The quality of products from a dollar store in general are another thing to look at. for the most part the items are very poor quality or actually overpriced compared to what you would find it for in a regular store. While there are some great deals to be found, it is completley buyer beware when purchasing their items.
My suggestion? Shop clearance at a regular store and you will be likely to find just as great of deals with better quality merchandise. Otherwise be very careful with what you spend your money on in a dollar store. Good luck!

I Agree.Dollar stores are a Ripoff
The Dollar Store is fine for certain kinds of purchases: those with a short life such as balloons, gift bags, birthday favor toys for a party, greeting cards, toothpaste, bath soap.
The Dollar Store is not where you want to buy clothing, furniture, anything with a longer life. For me, while I've been unemployed since June (though things are looking up now), the Dollar Store has been a godsend.
Haysus, Dollar Stores are a conspiracy against poor addled brain Americans. Boy, you can sure sell us anything.
My local 99 cents store is god send. It sell groceries, cheap cleaning products, all kinds of twine and clamps I use in my work. Some stuff is marked downs, some over stock, some purchased in large quantities and some stuff that just didn't sell.
Anybody can buy anything from any store and come out with a bad deal. Dollar Stores are no worse than any place else, just much cheaper.
why are the only two posters here with almost no sense both African? (just kidding) I guess when you're raised on dollar store bought toys and cereals, you learn to resent it as an adult rather than buckle down in turbulent economic times and do like Patful (I was about to chime in myself until I read your post about how that junk for birthdays/parties/etc., that's even over priced at Wal-mart, could be gathered for up to a year's worth gatherings off one Dollar Store shopping spree).

I agree with you. The Dollar store products are very poor quality and that is the reason why I hardly shop there. If I'm looking for deals I go to stores that are having clearance sales or have buy one get one free sales.
