Why do I get lots of clicks on Google Adsense but not a lot of money? What determines how much money I earn?
73Not all clicks are created equal
It's a great feeling when you see on your Google AdSense account that you have new clicks. But its pretty depressing when those clicks only generate a few pennies at a time. What about reports that people are making a buck or even a few dollars per click?
Those reports are true. How much money you make per click depends on which advertisement the viewer clicked on. Which ads are listed on your page depends on content. Lets say you happened to really love ancient Greek philosophy, and you make the world's greatest hub on Plato. You may get people to view your pages, but what type of ads will you get?
The ads generated on the page are determined by the keywords you have and the content of the hubpage. If your keywords and content are related to a group of people that advertisers really want to reach, say people looking for a new home mortgage, then advertisers have to compete with each other for ad space on your hubpage. Companies compete for space by telling Google they are willing to pay more per click than other companies. If you have your page on Greek philosophy, the ads generated will not be relevant to the content of your page. This means that you are likely to get fewer clicks mil and less money per click.
How do I make more money per click and get more clicks?
There are several ways to make more money from Google AdSense
- Content. Make sure your content is relevant to the type of person advertisers want. Home mortgages will always make more money than something like quilting.
- Ad placement. Hubpages does this automatically.
- Keywords. You want your keywords to be related to your content. That will increase the quality of ads you get.
- Adverstise yourself. The more people who visit your hubs, the more view you will get. Placing comments on other peoples pages is a good way to advertise yourself. If people think you have interesting comments, they will assume you also have interesitng hubs

I suppose I should mention a method that I don't use myself. Sign up for multiple sources of revenue. I only use Google Adsense, but there are other sources of income you can use on Hubpages like Ebay and Amazon.
ya its true .
there is a problem with using high paying keywords.there is a lot of competitors for those keywords. So your search engine ranking will suffer.
You can consider filtering out low paying ads.
These are great tips. Thanks for answering my request; you answered all my questions, and it makes me feel better knowing I've done all I can to earn more revenue. However, you should note that you do have a say in where ads are placed on your page based on how you lay out your hub; see http://hubpages.com/_fcap/hub/How-to-Make-100-per-
ad position in hubpages is done via automatic mechanism.I think its random.
Good hub, very informative. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for sharing these tips.
Thanks for sharing this information, great hub!
You're absolutely right that no 2 clicks are the same, but in my new hub, How I Quickly Find Lucrative Keywords Using Free Tools, you'll learn how Google themselves will tell you if an idea has a chance of being profitable as well as which words are thematically related to your main keywords.
PS- Your choice of web address phrasing is the single most important element in what types of ads get displayed. I learned this the hard way posting the above hub, lol.
Thanks for great advise. Always great when someone helps others.
gr8 hub! thanx for the ideas. I have signed up for multiple revenue companies as leftquark says, but still i havnt earned a single dollar after 3 months. This is highly depressing for me. A friend of mine earned around $70 in 4 months bt then adsense terminated his account on claims of illegal click!
gr8archer, your friend can appeal that action, especially if (s)he keeps detailed records. I doubt they'd cancel over one click (haven't tried it), but if your friend mentions that he or she does not wish to be paid for the day(s) in question, that's supposed to help. (I read black hat authors as well as more conventional ones). What seems to be missing here is an email from Google asking what's going on here?....
The reason why people get a lot of clicks but no money is that, some clicks are not valid and not counted due to "invalid" clicks. And you have to remember that a click ad rates would depend on the bid on the ads being click. Some advertisers have small bids on ads displayed on google. Lucky you get click on ads with higher bids from advertisers and those clicks are also valid.
ty for the advice!
Useful advice.. I have just jumped into this adsense thing.. And it was mind-boggling to see clicks resulting in amount ranging from 20 cents to 1.4 dollars.. Now i guess i can make at least some sense of adsense.. :)
i had a lot of clicks but i didn't get the money that i was expecting... thanks for the information cuz you know, i waz kinda getting nervous lol
Really informative hub. As you obviously know your stuff, could you answer this question. I'm new to google adsense but have set it up and have seen that I've got 4 clicks. (yes i know quite pathetic) But for earnings it says £0. So I just want to know do you need to get a certain amonut of clicks before earning any money? I was under the impression that a click always equated to money even if the click turned out to be worth as little as 1 penny?
