Dogs are pack animals. They are social creatures as well. Dogs thrive well in an atmosphere where they are given opportunities to interact with other dogs and with humans. If you are a dog lover and you have been with a dog for years you certainly have noticed that these affectionate animals are happiest if they are in the company of the people they have closely bonded with. This is probably one of the reasons why dogs are noted to cry at night. Dogs seldom cry in the daytime because even if it is not getting attention from its people, the dog would see the family thus it knows that it is not alone.

Puppies cry at night

The behavior of crying at night is more common in puppies. The puppy you have taken from the breeder seems to have settled well in its new home. The puppy has played all day and has shown a good temperament. Good! You have made a good choice…until the puppy has started whining and crying when you turned off the lights. Can the puppy be afraid of the dark? Because no one is sitting up and playing with the puppy, it realized that it is alone and it has started to miss it mother and its littermates.

The dog wants to go potty

Be thankful that the dog has disturbed your sleep with its whimpering and whining. Otherwise you have to deal with the mess created by the dog. Have you ever considered the possibility that the reason why the dog is crying at night is because it wants to go out to do its business? Some dogs would have to go out a couple of times at night. Puppies would want to use the toilet more frequently.

The dog is not sleepy

Humans need to sleep at night to recharge. Dogs, especially ones that are left alone at home all day would spend most of the time sleeping. When nighttime comes, the dog is wide awake…and very bored. The dog is crying to get your attention. The dog wants someone to play with.

Sleep Doggie…Sleep

Puppies are very similar to small children. This means that these animals would be very dependent on the master. If the puppy is afraid of the dark, would you consider leaving a night light on? You can have the doggie blanket in your room to reassure the puppy that it is not alone.

A dog will not cry at night and disturb your sleep if it has toys to play with. Provide your pet with cuddly to occupy its time until it is ready to sleep.
