Relationships with people are part of our daily life, this is part of every society, but what seems so common to most people like talking or asking directions to someone can become a real challenging and frustrating situation for someone with social anxiety.

Not being able to talk with people with security, feelings of anxiety at every social situations and extreme fear of social encounters can become very frustrating and can lead to depression.

Why do i have social anxiety? ask them, the first thing that you must know is if you have social anxiety, to know this you must first take a self test of social phobia:

Some of the symptoms that show people with social anxiety are excessive fear of being watch by people, anxiety in every social encounter, panic attacks, fear of being scrutinize by everyone, fear of talking with authorities, fear of eating and being watch, constantly avoiding social situations, avoiding daily activities and normal life for fear of being around people.

There are some physical symptoms like sweating, blushing, trembling, panic attacks and others.

Now you can have a perspective on how severe your social anxiety is and if you need help. However to have a clear diagnosis of your problem you must consult a doctor or psychotherapist so he can tell you what you need to do to recover.

Why do you have it? What is the Cause?

It depends on each person and depending on your case and severity the solution or treatment will be diagnose. But some of the common causes are:

  • Environment: if you were seriously scrutinize when you were child or you were embarrass in front of people or you had a very negative social experience that created a trauma, those can be causes of social anxiety.
  • Family dinamics: Maybe the way you were raised was to be quite, to not ask questions, to follow orders and not give your opinion.
  • Brain Chemistry: Sometimes an unbalance of chemicals in the brain can be a cause, if you have an excess or lack or serotonin it can be a problem.
  • Genetics: if your parents had social anxiety you most likely inherited the disorder.

Those are causes of social phobia, there are many cases in which negative remarks of the person in the school, when you were child, about your body or in a public situation caused this disorder.

How to treat your Social disorder

So depending on your case it could be why you have social anxiety. However there are specific treatments for social phobia that can help relive the disorder.

Some of the treatments are medications and psychotherapy. Medications can help reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression, but can also cause side effects. Behavioral Cognitive Therapy is the most effective way to get rid of this phobia.

As Voltaire is claimed to have said: ‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.’

If you acquired it from your parents, it was social not genetics. Anxiety is a accumulation of repeated negative thoughts which become beliefs held true by you. Change what you believe and you change your reality.

What you think or believe about me is not my business, therefore I dwell not on what I think you think about me. I do not create in my mind anxiety and am not held back by what I think(true/false) you think(true/false) about me.
