Why do unbelievers always want proof?

Rationalism

A Swiss scholar, Jacob Burckhardt, wrote a book named 'The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy', in which he wrote, "this culture was charecterised by a new belief - that man, as a individual, was capable of making his own decisions and developing his skills."

From that time onwards man, began to question the then existed believes and the age of rationalism developed. Man realised that for every thing that existed there is an explanation which can be scientifically proved. Based on this various hypotheses were put forward for the existence of God by the believers and the Scientists eventually disproved each and every one of them.

Proof is what authenticates the existence of an item. Where ever we go, we need proofs. Why do you carry your passport when you are on a tour to any foreign country ? Why do you test drive a car before purchasing ? The salesman will give you a sugar-coated description about the car. But still, we will test drive it because we need proof. We need proof to accept a tale as a fact.

Personal experience is what matters the most. Believing or not believing some thing should be left to the discretion of that individual. Even a hard core atheist like me will start believing in the existence of God if and only if I meet God in person.

I don't know how not to question. Every high priest since the dawn of time dictated blind faith because to question would be to uncover the flaws.

Everytime someone opposes questioning, I get very suspicious - what do they have to hide?

I became a believer because I asked questions! I haven't stopped asking. The thing is, are you truly satisfied with the answers you are getting, (assuming you are getting them.) Some things are beyond "proof". Oh yes, there is plenty of evidence, but you have to make a personal choice, "is that right, reasonable, etc...or not"? It's not up to someone else to "make" you believe. Thanks for writing an answer. :)

There is nothing wrong with skepticism,we all want proof at some time or other about something.Science is the search for truh,at least that's what I'm told!Kidding aside, seriously If it were not for science we would still be superstiousious about everything around us.Our reasoning would be much more tainted by our prejuduces.

On the other hand, our most profound beliefs even in science require a measure of faith, until such point we come to terms with our own personal thoughts on the matter.Everyone comes to the realization that we all learn at our own pace, and that pace just cannot be forced to speed up,nomatter our desire for it to do so!
