Japanese Manga
Yes, it's now popular all over the world and it so addictive to young adults specially those who loved cartoon drawings. I ask myself "How" it became popular?. Ive been in work in animation studio and because of that I exposed to western and japanese comic book. During 2 years of experience I observe that japanese comic book or a so called "MANGA" is so popular, many of my friends have them. Well, Im not saying western comic is not good, I admire also the way how to draw it. But as we can see, even in internet worldwide, it is still MANGA sites are always visited. When you look at it at first glance it is just a simple comic art or somewhat a caricature, but How it became popular?
Let's try to know the history behind it.
What is origin of manga? The answer depends on how you define "manga." The term itself was popularized by famous woodblock print artist Hokusai, but, to a popular myth, it was not invented by him. The word consists of two Chinese characters-the first meaning "to even yourself" or "lax" and the second meaning "picture" and is used to describe various comical images for less two centuries.
A thousand years before Hokusai applied the term to a collection of his
less serious works, there is "cartoonish" drawings to be found in
Japan, but whether or not the picture drawn in manga style constitutes
a deceptive question. The picture becomes clearer when we limit our
discussion to works that fit American cartoonist Will Eisner's
definition of comics as "sequential art." The first clear example of
this type of sequential art is the picture scrolls of medieval Japan,
that combine pictures and text to tell stories or describe events.
These scrolls look and work like modern manga or comics in many ways,
with one crucial difference: whereas modern-day manga are made for mass
consumption, picture scrolls are singular works of art produced for an
elite audience.

The WWII has a big effect in booming manga comics in Japan, after the war there are two comic series which influence a lot on future manga history. one is Osamu Tezuka's "Mighty Atom" better known as ASTROBOY in U.S. The other one is Machiko Hasegawa's Sazae-san.

For me, as I describe the manga, it is complete it has a nice story, nice characters, nice sense of humor, nice workart and the drawings looks like animating. Eventhough, some are exagerated but it is still nice to read at, it catches the reader. I like also the way how they plot the perspective view of the scene, the character expression, especially the big eye on which manga is typically known.
Its addictive because of the reader always see nice. Story, drawing, characters, fashion it was all nice to look at. The hairstyle even it is not good to have that in real but in manga it's cool. The clothes and costumes it's to look it on manga but not in real. Well we can say that, that's what can ART can do, doing beyond reality.
