Why?

I used to ask the same thing..oddly enough I felt as if though we only need math for like scientific jobs or accounting. Then I grew up and realized that math is every where. We need those skills to cook, budgeting and much more. Now i will tell you that I am diffently not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to math. I had to take special ed courses to help me with math, history and science. It seemed to me that englidh was the only thing that I was really good at. But math is something that Im still struggling with. You can ask your daughter what she thinks math is for? What are some of the reasons why we need math? And see what she says, then sit her down and explain to her that math is very important and that we use it all the time. If she is having some hard time in math then sit with her and help her with her homework or enroll her into the sylvan learning center or a tutor to help her out in her weakest area which would be math.

caicai, Math and reading and writing are extremely important if a person is to function well in society. Math is used in cooking, in calculating distance to a destination, in figuring out how much the grocery bill is going to be, in figuring the sale price of items, etc. etc. etc. We use math every day. Reading and writing are equally important. Too many people today count on relying on calculators and computers. Basic skills like math, reading, and writing are very important. Encourage your daughter to learn. Julie

Hi! Caicai, tutoring is a great Idea, but you need to do more. I created several games, which introduce kids to math, algebra and even Calculus. One is a mystery story and a treasure map looking map the object is to read the story then fold the map to solve the puzzle or mystery, I call them "Mystery Puzzle Maps", I also made a table board game where you roll the dice move the piece and have to answer algebra terms, laws, ect... the winner will need to solve a written problem. So, you yourself need to get involved in Math, Algebra and even Calculus, once the steps are in place you will find an end of conflict because math answers do not have several answers only one true right or wrong.
