Why is Math important in our lives?

Date Completed:

Math is one of those topics in most teenagers lives where we don't figure why it is important unless we are already using it or we happen to have an awesome math teacher who isn't sarcastic and says just what we need to hear in order to understand.

To put it simply, Math is important in many ways. First off, we need math each and every time we go to the store. This way we can know how much we actually get off on those Christmas Clearances.

Next, in most jobs we use some math. Now I admit we don't use a lot of it in all of our everyday jobs or maybe not at all in some jobs, but believe it or not we do use it somewhat in every job we will ever do. It's a basic remedy for completing everyday tasks within the workforce. If nothing else you will need it for filling out those tax forms coming January!!

Next, when you have a family of your own you will be looking how to save extra money on clothes, gifts, food, and all the other things where certain "discounts" apply. You will need to know how to calculate how much to save and how much to spend in order to keep your whole family happy while not going into debt. Which is also why 22% of americas youth are in credit card debt. It's because they don't have the proper knowledge (math skills) on how to calculate how much they owe in interest in order to save up for it with their next pay check.

So now you know the basics of why you need math. I hope this helped. Please send me an email at espianwriter@live.com if you need anymore info on this topic.

If the daughter is not good at math shouldn't she also know about how everything she uses has had some part in math, whether it be in art (there is a lot of math in that) or a machine that made whatever she is using. Secondly math intertwines with every bit of what the child is using, so that it works correctly, and so that they could reproduce it. So, math is a part of her everyday life.

What you wrote above are all good reasons, but don't you think that low math skills is not the only part to why so many of America's youths are in debt? Aren't there other reasons too? Such as not knowing that they really are spending so much. Thinking that they need everything, and just poor sense of judgement?

I don't mean to degrade your hub, it was very good, and well written, but I just think you should of included more of how much math surrounds her too. It would encourage me to enjoy math more.
