My pool looks like a swamp.

We moved into our house, a rental, about a year ago.  I wanted the house and hounded my husband for it because I was pregnant, for one, and it had a pool.  I knew that in the shape I was in that I would not leave the house during the summer months due to the intense heat.  We live in a very hot city.  It gets well into the 100's during the late summer months.

Anyhoo, I really wanted a house with a pool.  We found one in a good neighborhood, for a reasonable price with a pool.  I was on cloud nine.

When we actually looked at the pool, it was literally a cesspool.  I was undeterred because I had faith that all would be well by the time I moved in, and I was right.  I had a fantastic time floating my fat, child-bearing, butt around the pool all summer long.

Then the hurricane came....  Being 10 months, I am not exaggerating, pregnant during a hurricane is a different blog altogether, but the damage our pool suffered was traumatic.

During the winter we thought everything would be fine.  The water looked clear.  It needed new plaster, but hell, it isn't our house and we would only be here one more summer.  So, again, we were hopeful.

BUT.... as soon as the first wave of warmth hit us, the pool turned into the black lagoon.  I was devastated.  All of the sudden our pool guy stopped coming and I felt like I was being taken for a ride.  A few weeks went by and nothing.  The pool just got murkier and murkier.  I spent more time at my mom's lounging in her sparkling clear pool.  I wondered if I would ever be able to enjoy the pool that I was paying for every month.

Finally, as soon as my husband found time, and I came back home, we got in touch with the pool guy.  Lo and behold, he had stopped maintenance altogether.  Come to find out, the pool has to be drained and repairs must be made.  I was glad to know that the repairs would allow us the majority of the summer to enjoy our rented watering hole.  My daughter is here now and she is old enough to float around and splash in the water.

As I write this there is a lone man outside in my backyard.  He is sweating in the hot sun to repair steps and lighting fixtures in our pool.  I am thankful to him for his labor, and more thankful that his labor is not on my dime.

But still, I have to ask.... Where have you been Mr. Pool Man?  Ever heard of a courtesy call?

Again, anyway... I will be swimming in my pool by Wednesday, maybe Thursday, and I couldn't be happier.  I just hope the hurricanes take a break this summer.  At least I am not pregnant.
