Technology-Why Is There so Much Fascination With Robotics

Robots and robotics have been around for many years and yet the fascination and technology is advancing in leaps and bounds. As kids we all had our imaginations soaring in different directions with the comic strips coming up with imaginative ideas.

Let’s face it in the early 1900’s who would have really believed we would be landing on the moon and sending rockets into space. At the same time our robotics have done better still

If we let our imagination go wild, someone will come up with more incredible inventions for a robot to do anything at all. Nowadays there is so much research on a variety of autonomous robots. There are walking robots, autonomous underwater vehicles, remote controlled vehicles and of course simulated systems. Gone are the days in the late 1970’s where kids had those slow moving talking robots. Sophistication and technology has gone in leaps and bounds. In fact they have already replaced humans with cars being fitted and welded by robots.

A robot is a machine that is controlled by a medical physician through a computerized console.  This may be in another room to the patient or in the same room.  These robots work with robotic arms which the medical physician actually controls the work on the patient.  In order for the robot to work, the medical practitioner inputs the procedure to be carried out into the robot before surgery.

Many forms of robotics are already in use in both clinical and surgical medicine.  Some of these are as follows:

• Tiny cameras are inserted into the body allowing surgeons to perform medical wonders with minimal damage to the patients.
• They are also being used to monitor a patient’s bloodstream and pain management.      They help with the rehabilitation of patients.
• There are walking machines that help the patients get back on their feet after serious injuries. 
• Many people move their wheelchairs by the use of thoughts transmitted with the use of robotics.

As research improves, more and more advances will be made for these robots to take over more of the medical mundane tasks.

Many types of robots have been produced to travel miles under the ocean to search for sunken ships, help with the control of our marine life. And now they have produced a state of the art underwater robot called bob which could be used around the large cities of Turkey to detect and aid in the warning of massive earthquakes in that area.

Robotic Fish

This has been built in the shape of a real black fish and is over a meter long. Technicians give it a variety of instructions which is then controlled by a remote control pad which tells it where and how it swims with the movement of a fish. This can stay underwater for up to three hours reaching a speed of about 4 k’s an hour.

This is small and flexible enough that is does not affect the environment, and has been used to search for a sunken warship.

Military Robots

Robots are also used to inspect dangerous and hazardous environment situations. These are fitted with cameras and sensors it is sent into buildings and can detect where the bomb or danger lies. It will prevent a person from endangering their life while surveying this situation.

Then there is the Predator which is an unmanned plane. This is a super high tech plane with some autonomous flying capabilities. Use originally for reconnaissance. It can now be fitted with laser guided missiles.

This will keep both the little and the big kids happy. It is a Robotic Wi-Fi webcam that moves in any direction and can easily controlled remotely. Interact with Rovio through its streaming video and built in camera.
