The recently released iPhone has taken the country by storm, everyone wants to own this 3G piece of technology. But even beyond iPhone there are wide range of mobile products available like Samsung Omnia i900, The HTC Touch Pro and many more.

THE IPHONE 3G has just been released and is a great phone but there are also some other phones which are priced similarly and have different features as compared the iPhone. There is a wide range of mobile products available for consumers to choose from. All these phones have regular features like calling, messaging, e-mail, high speed web browsing ,Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity etc, but there are those smart phones, which have features that the iPhone does not offer. All new phones now have accelerometers, touch screens and other sensors, all thanks to the iPhone. While some of these are called iPhone killers, each brand has its own faithful clientele.

However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35. This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good. There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone. COUNTRY-LOCK NETWORK-LOCK PROVIDER-LOCK SIMCARD-LOCK The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is #PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)# # = DOUBLE-CROSS W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES + = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES MASTERCODE = 1234567890 Y = NUMBER 1 TO ------------------------------------- THE JAMES BOND TRICK If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying. ----------------------------------------------------- Clock Stopping To check weather your SIM Card supports clock stopping type- *#746025625# (*#SIM0CLOCK#) --------------------------------------------- To enter the service menu type- *#92702689# (*#WAR0ANTY#) Serial number (IMEI) Production date (MM/YY) Purchase date (MM/YY) You can only enter the date once. • HTC Touch Diamond vs. iPhone

When the original HTC Touch launched, critics charged that it had conflicting personalities: it wanted to be a home user’s device, with a simple touchscreen interface, but was really too attached to its business-like Windows Mobile side to truly work. The Touch Diamond not only reflects lessons learned from those year-old quirks but is also HTC’s first real chance at developing a product (almost) from the ground up to fight the iPhone. We take a look at the Diamond in a comparison review not only to see how well it fares against its US-designed counterpart but whether HTC was focused on interface or specsmanship.

  • Everyone but Apple may gain from India iPhone launch

Steep pricing and absence of 3G poses a major challenge to iPhone success, but usage of data and value-added services may take off. HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Telecom investors in India should be a happy lot this week. Mobile telephony is set to reach the next stage of evolution after the two largest GSM operators, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar, launched Apple Inc.’s iPhone on Friday. Paradoxically, the iPhone may have everything, yet nothing, to do with the changes it’s about to unleash. The iPhone launch by the two service-providers came after weeks of hype and hoopla, but sadly, proved to be a damp squib. Although the smart phone’s amazing new features kept the “wow factor” intact, the long-winding lines that sprang up in front of iPhone stores elsewhere in Asia ahead of the launch were conspicuous by their absence. The reason? The iPhone pricing is so steep that several potential customers were massively disappointed, even outraged, going by local media reports. The princely sum of 31,000 rupees ($720) for the 8-gigabyte iPhone and 36,100 rupees ($840) for the 16 GB version was too high for even such a cool gizmo. Additionally, Bharti is asking for a deposit of 5,000 rupees, while Vodafone is reportedly seeking twice as much. What’s worse, India has yet to auction the frequency spectrum required by mobile operators to start offering 3G, and a formal 3G launch is estimated to take up to a year. So even the rich, cool dudes who manage to get themselves an iPhone will only be able to enjoy the low-speed applications that they had access to anyway on their phones earlier. During the April-June quarter, Bharti earned 350 rupees a month as average revenue per user, implying that the company’s average customer can continue using the old phone for 9.8 years more, if he or she decides against buying a 16 GB iPhone, at a cost of 41,100 rupees (phone cost of 36,100, plus deposit of 5,000 rupees). Put another way, a fresh graduate recruited by one of India’s leading software companies will have to pay 1.6 times his or her pretax monthly salary of 25,000 rupees to satisfy an impulse to own the iPhone needs to rework its iPhone pricing in India if it hopes to attract a respectable number of customers in this poor but rapidly growing economy. Even if it doesn’t, other mobile operators and other handset makers probably have much to gain from the iPhone’s launch anyway. The iPhone’s biggest contribution to India will likely be the power of persuasion it brings along. For every iPhone user flaunting the smart phone’s cool features, there could be at least a dozen others who may want to upgrade their own phones to handsets that offer more features, but are more modestly priced. And several others may be tempted to explore the world of value-added services, in addition to voice and text messages. The mobile services industry in India has thrived over the past few years as call tariffs continue to fall, even after seemingly touching rock bottom. As compared to around 16 rupees a minute or more in the late 1990s, local outgoing calls now cost 0.60 rupees, or less than 1.5 U.S. cents, a minute. Local service providers are currently adding an average eight million customers each month, making India one of the fastest-growing mobile-service markets in the world. The industry’s average revenue per user, meanwhile, has been testing new lows each quarter, as providers penetrate deeper into the country, bringing on board new customers who can’t, or won’t, spend more than $8 a month on their phone bills. Most of those customers have so far been quite content using just voice, and perhaps, text messages. Getting customers to use value-added services such as downloads, or for bill payments, has been a bit of a challenge for local service providers so far. But that could change now, as the iPhone helps improve awareness about the possibilities and raises the bar of expectations. And all industry players, not just Bharti and Vodafone, will gain from the iPhone, whether or not Apple does.

It has all the other regular stuff like 3G, A-GPS, geotagging, WLAN, bluetooth with A2DP etc. Like the Nokia N96, this one also doesn't sport a touchscreen. There are others too like Samsung Instinct Sony Ericsson W960i Nokia N95 8GB Motorola ZN5 LG Viewty Nokia E90 LG Prada

Coming back to the iPhone, the following are some of its disadvantages, as it lacks certain features even found in most low-end cellphones currently available in the market.

IPhone has

* No provision for video recording.

* Does not allow copy and paste.

* 2 megapixel (MP) camera, while flash and optical zoom are missing .

* Cannot simply forward a text message, but can only be sent via email.

* No multiple contacts for SMS, hence no bulk mail.

* Cannot delete mails and photo albums in bulk, but only one by one.

* Cannot change an iPhone battery, but has to be sent to an Apple outlet .

* No support for Adobe Flash .

* No support for wireless modem.

* Cannot get all YouTube videos, but only a few selected ones that have been rolled out for the Apple-favored H.264 video codec.

* Cannot download ring tones from anywhere except iTunes.

Well, mobile companies are not taking any chance to allow Apple from taking over the cell phone market the way it has swept the MP3 player market. Each brand has its own loyal clientele and handsets are very much a personal choice, and the good news is that, there is an enormous range to choose from.

Whats the use of carrying an IPhone when it doesn't have half the features a latest mobile phone has? but it looks great though. for me my trusted navigator phone fulfils all my needs and its so much less complex to use

Iphone is no doubt the latest craze. But let us wait for a moment and see how it performs in the market.
