Does you or someone that you know LOVE your dentist? Have you ever spent a Saturday afternoon amongst a group of cute little “soccer moms” who are going on and on about their cute little “soccer kids” who can hardly wait to go on another trip to their cute little dentist’s office while you grit and grind your teeth down to the pulp because when you say the word “dentist” your children run screaming into the night?

Does a part of this scenario sound like a scene from an old Technicolor perfect family television show like The Brady Bunch, or an even older black and white perfect family TV show like Leave it to Beaver? Well it isn’t. The days of this type of perfection are actually here!

Along with phones that take pictures, ovens that turn themselves on, and cars that talk, the world of dentistry has come a long way. And believe it or not, there are some children who actually LOVE going to the dentist.

With the old days of our grandparents pulling out our teeth with a pair of pliers or a string that was tied to the back of a doorknob behind us, today’s dentistry actually has something called TECHNOLOGY. Believe it or not, many of these techno-savvy dentists are skilled professionals who know how to make both you AND YOUR CHILDREN comfortable, even amidst the pain of an aching tooth.

Many of these teeth doctors have soccer-children of their own, so they know the value in creating an atmosphere that is educational, comfortable, and fun while at the same time being a place to meet a child’s oral health needs.

I’m not just talking about encouraging a child to “open wide” by offering them stickers and balloons. Today’s kids are spoiled by today’s technology. As such, many are easily “persuaded” or “bought” by some of the hi-tech features that are now being offered in your local dental office.

I’m talkin about laser cavity detection and digital x-rays instead of harmful radiation. I’m talkin air-abrasion instead of that tired old cavity drill. (Doesn’t that belong in a hardware store?) I’m talkin chair massages and aroma therapy. I’m even talkin about VIDEO GLASSES and HEADPHONES so your child can watch movies while getting his/her teeth cleaned. What new millennium kid wouldn’t love all of that! What “ole school” parent isn’t jealous of it?

If you are a “soccer mom” or a “soccer dad” (I love dad’s too), and your “soccer children” have a “soccer dentist” PLEASE tell some of the not so “soccer” folk how taking a time out to visit a dentist that your child LOVES has made your stewardship over your child’s health a whole lot easier. Share your story with the rest of the world. There are plenty of families who want their children to get into the game as well.
