Recession the Time Of Opportunity

Most of my posts are usually related to what my company does. But this one is different, it is generic and relates to the current economic climate.

Every day, I talked to or listen to people who are so gloomy about the future. Business is tough, I don't know if I am going to survive etc.

Psychologists and alike would probably tell me that by associating with negative people, I will eventually become negative as well.

But the funny thing is that I am not, in fact quite the opposite. I become more encouraged the more I listen to doom sayer's on the Radio or TV or people that I meet. Simply because I believe that yes there is a downturn, but the world has not stopped. There is still business being conducted, money circulating etc.

I take the simplisitic view, that if the majority of people take the a negative view, then response to identying and actioning opportunity will be equally negative.

Recessions are in my opinion where the cream rises to the top.

Ok, here is why.

Recessions are eventually defeated by innovation! They are I have read the real incubators of innovation, why- well as the old adage says "necessity is the mother of invention".

Innovation is just about coming up with some mind blowing new product, it is innovation in service, promotion, distribution, pricing etc. By the last, I am not talking about discounting!

Do you think innovative ideas would emerge from those with a mind set of doom and gloom?

Probably not, it is those whose mind is set to see the recession as an opportunity!

So in my humble opinion, recessions are when opportunity is actually at its greatest. It just depends on your attitude.
