The Seasons Affect Us All

Every Season Has Recreational Activities And Fun

I have four favorite seasons of the year. No, I'm not joking. I love the changes of the seasons.

Now that it is Spring, I'm enjoying the hot days with cool evenings. My husband and I take long walks on which we bring our coffee from home through the park across the street from where we live. We get up in the cool morning and have a nice breakfast. In the evening we have dinner at home together and then walk again outside the park and sit on a bench to enjoy the cool breeze. Then when we retire to sleep we just turn the fans on and enjoy the good sleeping weather. We already went to the beach three days this Spring because the weather went into the 80's. We also enjoyed shopping very economically in Brighton Beach for shorts, Summer tops, etcetera. One thing I absolutely love about the Spring is leaving the windows open with no heat or air conditioner on. Also, the smell of the air after it rains and watching the trees get new leaves and flowers bloom.

In Summer, we enjoy going to the beach for which we bring sandwiches, drinks and snacks, beach towels and hop on the train to Brighton Beach which has become Little Russia. We sometimes buy pierogies if we have spent the whole day walking on the boardwalk, bathing in the ocean and sitting on a bench on the boardwalk. We get tired, but we get hungry. They sell potato, meat and cabbage pierogies there. We also take walks in the park and sometimes take picnic lunches and drinks over there and lay on beach towels by the lake under the trees. We enjoy the shade of the trees of Prospect Park so much during the Summer. Walks are best in the morning or evening when it is cooler. After it rains, the air is fragrant with the scent of flowers and fresh smelling grass. It's also nice that the Parks Dept. puts Portable Potties around the park during the Spring and Summer. There are paddle boats, and there's also a zoo in the park which is fun. There are monkeys, and a seal feeding time that you can watch and see the seals do tricks. The zoo is open all year.

In Fall, we still take our walks in Prospect Park. We often look forward more to this season because a lot of people who hate the cold stop going to the park so it is quieter and cleaner. We like to go to our spot by the lake where there are several benches. The ducks, geese and fish stay there, and you can throw them bread, and they come right up to you to eat it. In the warmer weather you can rarely get a spot on a bench. In late Fall, the leaves on the trees around the park are changing color, and it looks beautiful there with the yellow, orange, red and brown colors.

I like the Winter because you can go ice skating in the park or just watch them. They also sell hot cocoa at the rink. There's a trolley that comes around in the park on weekends and holidays all year that takes you to the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, which are not far outside the park, where there are large greenhouses with bonsai and other unusual plants. On Saturdays, it's free to enter the Gardens between ten and twelve noon, although the prettiest time to go in my opinion is the Spring because all the flowers are blooming.

By the time we've had snow a few times, and Christmas and New Year's Day are over, Tim and I are anxiously awaiting the Spring again!
