Why does my cat DO THAT?
72Cats are freaky.
They do strange things that make us go huh? As far as domesticated pets go, they are pretty mysterious, don't you think? Below is a list of cat behaviors that commonly occur, but make us wonder what exactly us up with our feline friends:
Why is my cat licking himself constantly?
Cats are neat freaks. By licking themselves they are keeping their fur shiny and neat, cooling off during the hot weather, helping themselves stay waterproof, and possibly mending a cut they have. Those rough little tongues can really work wonders! Speaking of rough tongues...
Why does my cats tongue have a sand paper texture to it?
Some people are freaked out by the feeling of a cats tongue, but I find it pretty neat. The cat needs this rough tongue to groom himself! The sandpaper texture acts as a brush to keep your pets hair looking grand...cats in the wild also need rough tongues to pick meat off their prey.
Why does my cat flip over on his back sometimes?
Don't find it offensive if your cat suddenly rolls over, and spread eagle in front of you – this is your pets way of showing you that they trust you.
Why does my cat knock everything over?
Cats are curious, and yes that is annoying (especially if you enjoy having fresh flowers around, like myself) and the majority of times they are knocking things over because of their curiosity! They may also be trying to get your attention...
Why does my cat rub on my legs?
Cats rub on you so that you smell more like a cat...if you smell more like a cat, they will probably want to be around you more! Your pet is also leaving his scent on you to let other cats know, this one is mine!
Why does my cat claw the furniture?
note, this isn't a positive behavior and you can stop it by trimming your cats claws, or putting stopers on them! See my article on declawing for further remedies
Cats scratch things because it sharpers their claws, and exercises their claw muscles. They are leaving their smell on your furniture when they do it, and it helps to rejuvenate their paws.
Why does my cat scratch me?
Because he hates you....no, but if your cat is scratching you, you are probably doing something to annoy him! Try to avoid scooping your cat up when he doesn't want to be, playing with his tail, or squeezing him too tightly because the scratch is simply a defense mechanism.
Why do cats knead?
Kittens get milk by nursing their mother. By pressing their paws one at a time up against the belly of a mom cat your pet is helping get fed – grown cats do this when they are taken away from their moms too young.
