"Widow" - The Movie is a Nigerian movie. Nigerian movies are now foundly named Nollywood films. This movie industry is growing fast and going places. Having said so it has a lot of teething problems which I may want to explore later on. but Widow is a blockbuster and quite refreshingly good.

Stella Damasus Aboderin stars as the woman who's well structured and happy life is turned upside-down when her beloved husband dies suddenly in the middle of a nasty family feud.

The movie explores the hardships and injustices widows go through in some African countries where family and societal tradition still refuses to treat these unfortunate women with any mercy.

Stella Damasus Aboderin does a wonderful job as the Widow. All women should watch this movie. If you are an African lady especially do try and get your hands on a copy. This is not to say that other parts of the world do not sometimes do exactly the same thing to those unfortunate ones amongst them.

Widow the movie opens up a debate on the rights of a widow in a changing society. The widows struggle is everywomans struggle. The Acting was superb and really worth attention as a masterpiece in Nollywoods search of being taken seriously in todays global cinema world where Hollywood still reigns as the master of them all.

"Widow" is produced by Kingsley Ogoro, this Nollywood blockbuster also has starring in the movie Yemi Solade, Peter Bunor, Segun Arinze, Obiageli Mulobe, Agatha Amata, Moji Erinle.

Stella and "Widow", the Connection.

Watching this movie was personally distressing for me. Why? Because I was aware that many women were actually going through these inhumane hard times in reality. At the back of my mind was also the thought that "I hope Stella didn't actually have to go through all this too? This can't be her story on film can it?" I knew she was a widoow and had loved her dear departed husband, Late Jaiye Aboderine, so much. The horror of loosing someone so close and then to be tortured by those who should be protecting you and helping you through your grief is so absolutely devastating.

I read an interview with Stella done three years ago and got my answer. No it wasn't her story, but yest she went through some horrors of her own.

Read the Interview of Stella Damasus Aboderin by Susan Eyo-Honesty, and find out more about how true to life the film "Widow" is for Stella.

You're so right MissA, social issues like this are important to be highlighted and what brilliant way to do this. Stella is such a natural and I know she understood this part so well as she had gone through a great loss herself.

My favorite Nollywood film is "Osuofia in London"

"Osuofia in London" is considered a classic by many. It's a relevant comedy, that captures the culture clashes that can occur when a typical village man finds his way to the streets of London. "Widow" captures the problems a woman can encounter when tradition is misinterpreted and used as an abusive weapon against women, therefore another classic to some. Thanks for dropping by.
